Chapter Eleven:
Someone was screaming, begging for them to wake up. Ryeowook’s eyes fluttered open, the dim lighting from the dangling bulb overhead making things hard to see. He looked around the small room he was in, spotting two others with him. One was Shindong.
“Appa! You’re up!” the little boy shrieked, running to hug him. “They took Sungmin hyung away!”
“What are you talking about, Shindongie? Who? Who took Sungmin?” He glanced over at the sleeping figure, recognizing it as Kyuhyun. “Yah, Kyuhyun.”
“He won’t wake up, appa. Is he dead?”
“No, no, he’s not dead.” Ryeowook slowly got to his feet and approached the younger man. He shook him slightly. “Kyuhyun-ah, are you okay?” He rolled over, the gash on his head coming into view. “Kyuhyun, you’re hurt!”
“Stop shouting,” he murmured. “My head hurts.” The elder helped him sit up. “Where’s Sungmin?”
“They took him, hyung!” Shindong sniffled.
“Who took him?”
“I don’t know their names, Kyuhyun hyung. But one was Chinese. He was speaking it…”
Kyuhyun looked toward the door as he creaked open, Sungmin being thrown inside. “Sungmin!” He ran to his husband, tears of relief almost falling. He spotted who was on the other side of the door before it slammed closed. “It was Zhoumi…” He knelt by Sungmin. “Honey, are you okay?”
“I’m a little banged up, but still in one piece,” Sungmin reassured him. “I’m worried about you. When they showed up at the house, they knocked you unconscious.”
Kyuhyun hugged Sungmin tightly, tears in his eyes. “I didn’t know what happened. I’m so grateful that you’re okay, Minnie.”
Ryeowook smiled at his friends as he picked up his son. “We need to find a way out of here.” He looked around. “Wherever here is…”
“They took our phones and wallets. How are we supposed to call for help or anything?”
“Someone’s bound to find us. I just don’t know how long we can stay alive.”
They huddled in a corner together, trying to keep calm and warm. Wherever they were, the temperature was freezing. They decided that someone would always be awake in case Zhoumi returned. Shindong and the two not set as the lookout went to sleep, trying to regain some strength.
“Their phones are off,” Joon explained. He looked around the police station at Yesung, Siwon, and the other officers. Seungho was there as well, sitting in a chair by G.O. “We can always use GPS.”
“It’ll only work if by some stroke of luck Zhoumi and Henry are stupid enough to forget about it,” Mir said. He gnawed on his bottom lip, pondering some plans. “We’ll try to find them via GPS. If it works, we split into teams. If it doesn’t, we’ll figure out something else.”
“Try the GPS,” Seungho ordered.
Taking a deep breath, G.O pressed the button on his computer, signaling for the GPS on their phones to outputting a signal. “I don’t think it’s working,” he whispered after a few minutes. There was a beeping sound before the monitor displayed the words unable to connect. “No luck.”
Hongki was sitting just inside the door, flipping his phone over in his hands. He was about to speak when his phone rang, making everyone in the room jump. “H-hello?” he asked. He turned on speaker phone.
“Thanks for leading us to them,” a voice said.
“Henry, where the hell did you take them?” Hongki looked over at G.O and mouthed for him to trace the call.
“That doesn’t concern you,” Zhoumi answered instead. “We won’t kill them yet.”
“Why kill them at all?” Cheondoong demanded.
Zhoumi laughed. “If you were betrayed, you’d want them dead, too.” He hung up the phone. Hongki looked over at G.O.
“Did you get a location?”
G.O smiled. “I sure did. Smart thinking, Hongki.” G.O looked at the location, frowning at what he saw. “They’re at the base.”
“You’ve got to be joking!” Joon grumbled. “We were just there! Why go back?!”
“It was ordered,” Kangin interrupted from the jail cell. “Why the hell am I still in here anyway? didn’t I prove myself loyal when I shot Commander Yoon?”
“You’re in there for the fact that I still don’t know what to do with you.” Seungho pecked G.O on the cheek. “I have to get back to my office. Leeteuk and Hankyung are buying those houses and I need to file the paperwork.”
“Alright, babe. I’ll see you at home.”
On his way out, Seungho passed T.O.P and Doojoon entering the station with Taeyang and Junhyung. “Hello, guys. I’ll call you later about some things we need to sort out.”
“Yah, we came to ask if you knew any more about Sungmin, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Shindong,” Taeyang stated.
“They’re being held at the base.”
“If I have to go back there one more time, I’m going to go postal,” Junhyung muttered. He sighed before looking at the officers. “Who is scheduled to get them?”
“Nobody yet. We need to split into two teams at least. One for search and rescue. The other for diversion.”
“I’ll be a part of it,” Doojoon offered. When he saw Junhyung was about to protest, he stopped him. “You and I will speak at home, Junnie dear.” He turned his attention back to the others. “I’ll call when I get things settled. If you need something, phone us.” He grabbed his husband’s hand and pulled him along to their car. They climbed in and drove away.
“That was random,” T.O.P laughed. He glanced at Taeyang before looking at G.O. “Put me down to be part of the search and rescue team.”
Mir sighed. “Why are we always going on rescue missions? I’m tired of it!”
“Then we’ll go,” Taecyeon offered, stepping inside the room. “One Day is still around. It’s still who we are. Since those of 2AM are stronger, they’ll be the rescue team. 2PM, with more members, will be the diversion. It’s what we’re good at.”
“I though you were good at getting revenge?”
“Revenge, stalking, and distractions. It’s why One Day was created. We were trained by the best assassin the military could afford.”
“Who is that?”
“Jung Jihoon. Better known as Rain. He lives just to fight and kill people,” Junsu explained. He was using crutches to help him stand. “I’ve only encountered him once. And it was a nightmare.”
“The military uses Rain to-”
“The military uses me for what?” Rain asked, standing in the doorway. Taecyeon and Junsu scurried away from him, staying a safe distance away.
“You’re one of the best assassins the military could afford. The others being Teuk, Kangin, Heechul, and Hankyung. You were used to make unwanted soldiers disappear. You were supposed to kill off Junhyung last year, but they saved him.”
“How do you know so much about the military’s confidential activities?”
Taecyeon smirked. “We’re members of the notorious One Day.”
“Nice to finally meet you. I’m looking for Zhoumi and Henry. Where are they?”
Before they could answer, Hongki’s phone rang again. He answered it. “What the hell do you want now, Zhoumi?!”
“I was just going to warn you that in five minutes, the mayor’s office is going to go up in smoke. While taking Sungmin, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and that brat, we implanted dynamite into the building. As soon as Seungho answers his phone, it’ll go boom.”
“Hey, Zhoumi!” Taecyeon took Hongki’s phone from him. “Tell that bastard Jaebeom that One Day is coming for him. And you best be ready, too. We’re not in merciful moods.” He disconnected the call before looking at Junsu. “You’re staying here.”
“What? No, I’m not. I’m going with you!” Junsu protested.
“You can’t, Junsu. You’re on crutches, so just stay here with them.” Taecyeon pulled out his phone and dialed a number. “Changmin, get to Seungho’s office. Don’t call him, just go. Keep him from picking up the phone.”
After disconnecting, he walked out. Everyone heard tires squeal as he sped off. Knowing that One Day would take care of everything made the rest of them relax a little.
“I’m glad we have help,” Mir said, sighing in relief as he sat down. He looked at Rain. “Why are you here?”
“I came here to see a friend of mine, but it seems that those two idiots are endangering his life. So now I get to go after Zhoumi and Henry.”
“Wait!” Junsu stepped in front of him, trying to be intimidating, but the crutches made him look weaker. “Leave it to One Day. We hate them, too.”
“No, leave it to the Five Treasures,” Hongki barked. “Those cowards used me to get what they wanted! I’m not going to show any mercy!”
“We all have reasons to get even,” Joon interrupted. “Leave it to One Day. They will represent us in this fight. We have to stay here in case those buffoons return to stir up more trouble.” He turned toward the jail cell. “Yah, Raccoon, make yourself useful. Keep watch with Leeteuk, Hankyung, and Heechul at the north entrance. G.O, Mir, Cheondoong, and I will cover the south.”
“I’ll call T.O.P to see if he and his men can watch the east,” Cheondoong added. “Get Doojoon and his men to watch the west.”
“When one of you gets challenged, you all step up as one.” Rain smiled. “I want in. give me an assignment.”
“How can we trust you?” Siwon finally spoke. “You work with the sons of bitches who kidnapped our friends.”
“I’m not like them. I don’t work for my own selfish desires. If I did…” He shook his head. “We’ll not go there. What can I do to prove my loyalty to you?”
“Good luck with that,” Kangin stated. He stretched out on the lonely bed in the cell. “I killed someone and they still don’t trust me…”
“With good reason,” Yesung retorted. “You almost killed Joon, Mir, and G.O. I believe they have every right to not trust you.”
“Well, Taecyeon jumped that kid, but he forgave him.” Junsu looked at Hongki. “And we’ve been at each other’s throats before. It’s just a matter of time before we have no choice but to trust them…”
“I never said we trust you.” Hongki glared at him. “But we can put our differences aside for this. There’s more important things right now than our feud.”
Junsu nodded. “I have to go. I was instructed to not stay on my leg for long periods of time. Thanks, Siwon.” He nodded farewell to everyone before leaving. He had hobbled down the hall and outside before Hongki caught up with him.
“Hey, you don’t have anywhere to go, do you?” Junsu shook his head. “Come on, let’s go.”
“Go where?”
“I’ll call the others and tell them to move our headquarters to here. I’ll rent out a vacant house and we’ll all stay there.”
“When you say all…”
“I mean the Five Treasures, One Day, and those guys we ran into. They need a group name…” He thought for a moment. “Ah, hell. I can’t come up with anything.”
“Then why don’t we incorporate them into One Day?”
“We’re the Shiny Boys,” Jinki interrupted. He was holding Key, who was asleep.
“Nice to see you again,” Taemin squeaked. Junsu laughed.
“Don’t be so scared, Taeminnie. I’m not going to attack you. I just agreed to be allies with my enemy.” He laughed again.
“We need a better name for all of us, though. We can’t just be the Shiny Boys, Five Treasures, and One Day.”
“Why can’t we, Hongki?”
“If we really are going to work together, we need to act like one group.” He was quiet as they all walked toward the house Hongki was going to rent out. When they arrived, inspiration struck. “I have it!”
“What did you come up with?” Jonghyun asked. He took Taemin’s hand in his, hoping that nobody caught the action.
Hongki went onto the front porch and turned to face them. “We’ll be the Shiny Treasures of One Day.”
“The Shiny Treasures of One Day?” Junsu looked at the others around him. “It does have a unique sound to it.”
“And it fits all of us.” Hongki looked at the Shiny Boys for confirmation.
“It’s fine with us!” Minho said.
“Alright, the name is concocted. We need to set up our headquarters!”
“Seungho!” Changmin hollered, his footsteps thundering down the hall as he sprinted toward the office. He threw open the door, startling the man behind the desk. “Do not, under any circumstances, answer that phone!”
“W-why not?” Seungho asked, slightly scared.
“Zhoumi’s trying to blow this place up using your phone connection.” The phone rang after the explanation. Seungho stared at it, hand hovering by it. “Don’t you dare, Seungho!” Changmin dove at him, knocking them both to the floor.
“Get off!”
“No! You aren’t answering that phone!”
“What if G.O needs me for something?!”
“Then he can call my cell! You aren’t allowed to answer your phone!”
Seungho stopped fighting against him, knowing he could never throw him off. He sighed. “Let me use your phone to call the station, then.”
“Fine.” Changmin rolled off of the younger, handing him his phone. “Keep it short. I’m waiting for Taecyeon’s orders.”
“Byunghee, babe. I’ll swing by the station and pick you up. I’m already done here. Alright, I’ll see you soon. Love you.” He hung up, handing Changmin’s phone back.
“Byunghee?”
“Oh, shut it.” He climbed to his feet, grabbing his car keys from his desk. “Let’s get going.”
“Byunghee? Is that really his name?”
“Didn’t I tell you to shut it? In the military, I gave them all nicknames as my recruits. Only I know their actual names. Other then themselves.”
“I figured they’d know their own names.” They walked outside together, both getting into Seungho’s car. “So why do they not go by their actual names?”
Seungho shrugged. “I don’t know. After we left, I thought they’d go back to using their birth names, but none of them did.” He smiled. “I’ll have to ask them that some day.”
During the ride there, Taecyeon phoned Changmin, telling him to get to their makeshift headquarters. Seungho dropped him off at the house. He wasn’t sure it was the right place until he saw the plaque hanging on the front door:
Headquarters of the Shiny Treasures of One Day
Smiling, he went inside. He saw that the rooms had been separated by position. He, Taecyeon, Jinki, and Jonghun would share a room as the leaders of S.T.O.D.
“Yah, I’m here. Let’s form a plan!” he called out. The leaders rushed to the kitchen, pulling out chairs as they all took a spot around the table.
“Let’s make them regret crossing us,” Taecyeon announced. They went to work, forming a plan that would get them into the base and out with those who were being held captive. They were planning on putting the plan into action as soon as night fell on the next day. With luck, they’d succeed.
