Summary: Junhyung and Yoseob wish to show their affections through actions over words.
Junhyung rolled over, the arms at his waist tightening. He tried to swat them away, but the muffled protests from his new husband made him stop. Sighing, he turned to look at the blond.
“I need to go to work,” Junhyung explained.
“Call in sick,” Yoseob yawned. He pulled Junhyung closer and laid his head against his chest. Junhyung’s heartbeat was steady and soothing.
“Why? So you can use me as a pillow some more?” He wrapped his arms around the younger and pulled him into a sitting position. “You know I’d love to stay, but the bills aren’t going to pay themselves.”
“Just this once? Please, please, please?”
Junhyung sighed, falling back onto his pillow. “Fine. I’ll call in sick.” He reached for his phone, but Yoseob stopped his hand by grabbing his wrist. “What now, Yoseob?”
“I kind of already called you off.”
“What?”
“I thought you could use the day off, so I went ahead and called. You’re getting really stressed out and everything. I was worried.”
Junhyung stared at the blond incredulously. “You called me off work without asking me about it?” At Yoseob’s small nod, Junhyung sighed. “You are impulsive, Yoseob.”
“Is that a bad thing?” Yoseob pouted.
Junhyung kissed him swiftly before he replied, “You’re impulsiveness is one of the never-ending reasons I love you.”
“What are we going to do today?”
“Amusement park?”
“Too crowded.”
Junhyung thought for a moment. He smiled, looking at Yoseob. “I have the perfect idea, but it’s a gift to you. You’ll have to go somewhere for a few hours.”
Yoseob’s pout returned, full force. “Why, Junnie?”
“Because if you follow me, it’ll be ruined.” He climbed out of bed before the blond could protest anymore. He hurried to the dresser and pulled out random articles of clothing, knowing that they’d match no matter what was pulled out. “Go visit Doojoon and Kikwang. I heard they adopted a little girl.”
“They’ve sent me too many photos of her already.” Yoseob pulled at a loose thread on his pillowcase.
“Then go see Dongwoon and Hyunseung. Their store is doing a lot better these days.”
“I just saw Dongwoon at the grocer’s three days ago.”
“Then stay inside all day! Why do you shoot down every idea I have?” Pulling on his shirt, Junhyung looked at Yoseob. The blond’s eyes had widened when he raised his voice. “Sorry, Seobbie. You know that I don’t mean to yell, right?”
The other nodded. “I know. You just get frustrated with me.” He lowered his eyes to the floral sheets they had fought over. In the end, Yoseob won.
“I don’t get frustrated with you. I just get a little grouchy when you don’t trust me. We are married now, so I thought it would change things a bit.”
“How about I clean the house while you get whatever it is ready?” Yoseob said suddenly.
“If you really want to clean today, you can.” When Yoseob smiled and sprang out of the room, Junhyung scratched his head. “That was out of character.”
He shrugged it off as he left the house. He drove to the store to get the supplies he needed to pull off Yoseob’s surprise. He didn’t know that he’d be in for a surprise, too.
“Where should I start?” Yoseob asked himself, eyeing his bedroom. He looked at the curtains, the bedspread, the knickknacks lining the dresser and shelves, the throw rug on the carpet. “I’ll just strip everything now.”
Yoseob went to the bed and pulled the sheets and comforter into a huge ball. He shook the pillows out of the cases and threw them on top of the heap. He rolled the throw rug over it and carried it to the garage, stuffing it all into a tote. Returning to the room, he stopped at the hall closet and grabbed a bed set that better suited Junhyung’s style than his. He pulled the fitted sheet over the mattress and easily placed the sheet over it. He pulled the comforter up and threw it onto the bed, straightening it where needed.
Smiling at the dark hued grays set in stripes lining the bed, he turned to the closet. Yoseob dug around for a box and permanent marker. He scrawled Yoseob’s Junk across the top flap and started putting his knickknacks inside. Pulling a second box, labeled Junhyung’s Stuff, from the closet, he opened it. He smiled at their high school pictures, placed in delicate metal frames.
“He still has this?” he murmured, lifting a handmade ceramic coffee mug from the box. On the bottom, Yoseob’s name was etched into it. It was a birthday gift when they were in their second year of high school. He placed it carefully next to him and pulled out another gift. “Wow, he kept this, too.” Staring at the star shaped container, he slowly lifted the lid, laughing at what he saw. Every note Yoseob had passed Junhyung in the hallway in between classes was stuffed into it.
Setting the container and mug back inside, Yoseob pulled out some of Junhyung’s knickknacks and picture frames from it. He arranged them tastefully on the dresser, making sure to not overcrowd the surface like he had done with his things. He moved to the end table on Junhyung’s side of the bed. He sighed when he realized most of the things crowding its surface weren’t actually Junhyung’s. he removed his belongings from the table, fixing the other’s to make it look neater. The stuffed his things into his box, closed it, and pushed it under the bed. He placed Junhyung’s carefully back into the closet.
“Time to work on the other rooms.”
Yoseob hurriedly replaced the curtains in the living room and dining room. From there, he reorganized the photos on the mantel and tables in the living room to make it neater. He rushed to the bathroom shortly after, sighing once there. He moved all of his shampoos, conditioners, and body washes to one side of the shower caddy and all of Junhyung’s to the other. He was finished by the time the front door opened.
“Yoseob!” Junhyung’s voice carried easily in the small home. Yoseob ran to the door to greet him.
“I have something to show you!” the blond exclaimed, throwing his hands over Junhyung’s eyes. He led him to the bathroom, making him face the shower caddy. “Room one.” He uncovered Junhyung’s eyes.
“Wow, Seobbie,” Junhyung whistled. “Nice job.” Yoseob recovered his love’s eyes and led him to the dining room.
“Room two.” He removed his hands again, gaining another praise from Junhyung. Repeating his action, he led Junhyung into the living room. “Room three.” Another praise. “And, finally…” Yoseob led Junhyung into their room, removing his hands. Junhyung didn’t say a thing. After five minutes, Yoseob frowned. “Junnie, you don’t like our room?”
“I wasn’t expecting this,” he replied, looking at every change in the room. The dresser was uncluttered, you could tell that it was his bedside table, the bed looked like it actually belonged in the home of two men. “This is amazing, Seobbie…”
“Really? You’re not just saying that?”
Junhyung turned to Yoseob, kissing him hard on the mouth. The kiss conveyed every emotion that Junhyung couldn’t portray. It spoke louder than any word could, almost shouting his happiness. When they parted, Yoseob was grinning like a fool.
“Does that answer your question?” When Yoseob nodded, Junhyung smiled. “Good. Now follow me. I have your surprise finished.”
This time, Junhyung led Yoseob to the car, placing a blindfold over his eyes. He told the blond to keep it over his eyes until he was directed to remove it. After a fifteen minute car ride, Junhyung grabbed Yoseob’s hand and led him to a secluded area of a park.
“Alright,” Junhyung started, smiling. “Remove the blindfold.”
Upon his words, Yoseob removed it, blinking at the bright light. Once his eyes adjusted, his mouth fell open in awe. They were standing under a cherry blossom tree that was in full bloom. Pink petals swirled around them as Yoseob finally looked to the ground. A blanket was neatly spread under the branches, a wicker basket set in the middle. Beside that was a bottle of champagne and a small bouquet of white roses.
“This is perfect, Junnie!” Yoseob whispered, wiping away the tears of pure happiness that were trailing down his cheeks.
Junhyung kissed him again. He placed his lips near Yoseob’s ear.
“Not as perfect as you are,” he whispered in return.
