Heading in the right direction
I haven't posted anything of substance in such a long time. I have been super crazy busy. But now I have news I wanted to share with you all...
After my contract here at the research company is up... I have an internship with Unite! Here organizing workers... probably in the gaming sector and in the multi-service service (SODEXO etc).
:)
I am very happy. This is the kind of work that I've been trying to get into for quite sometime now. If you have followed this journal since the begining, you will know that I went last year to Saskatchewan to do organizing for SEIU in an internship. This is basically the same deal, just a different union and based out of Toronto instead.
I feel, somehow, that this will be different. I'm not sure if it's just that the people at Unite! Here (all of the 5 training organizers that I met at the training last weekend were student activists turned organizers, in comparison to all older healther care workers at SEIU) or if it's just that I am feeling much more comfortable being in my skin these days, but this feels different. I am hopefull that this time I might get picked up for work. This time though, I am going to keep looking for work for after the internship so if I don't get picked up I have something else to fall back on.
We will see.
Also, of course, I have just moved into a new place with cmg. We're struggling a bit to get things in order and all this other stuff has come along to get in the way. It's a busy time for both of us. But now that I have this internship, I think I will be able to feel more at ease since I was kinda distraught that I was going to end up working in administration year after year for the rest of my life.
We need to have a party soon so y'all can see the place and celebrate. Maybe we will have a party at the end of the month so we can celebrate May 1st... which, of course, is May Day, or the international day of the worker.
