Interesting Fan Based Films

Well, as a quick review/suggestion service to those who bother reading my journal, I’ll cover some of the films that you can find either on the internet or from fan site.

Star Wars - I.M.P.S. The Relentless

http://impstherelentless.com/tek9.asp

I.M.P.S. (Imperial Military Personal Stories) is a series of stories based off a fan take on the Star Wars universe, with Female Storm Troopers (which did happen in the latter time line during the second Sith Empire, since most Storm Trooper legions were based off human recruitment), different pieces of equipment, and really well done CGI. Currently, there’s two chapters done, with a total of eight planed.

H.P. Lovecraft - The Call of Cthulhu / Whisper in the Darkness

From the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society, these fans have produced a lot of top notch stuff for the Cthulhu mythos. Not to mention the films, they have some amazing adaptations of Lovecraft’s stories to pseudo-radio programs. Look under The Dark Radio Adventure Theater ( http://www.cthulhulives.org/radio/DART/index.html )

Nazis in Space - Iron Sky: There are Nazis on the Moon

An interesting bit of alternative history/sci-fi featuring Nazis on the moon who then return to the Earth. I’m interested to see how they handled the micro-gravity on the moon in that case.

Star Trek - Various

Star Trek: Interpid

http://www.starshipintrepid.net/

Over 300 years have passed since the historic groundbreaking of the Warp 5 research and development facility on Earth, where the legendary Zefram Cochran gave his commemorative speech, which ignites the vision of multiple generations, "Imagine it. Thousands of inhabited planets at our fingertips... and we'll be able to explore those strange new worlds... and seek out new life and new civilizations... go boldly... where no man has gone before."

Today, when much of the Federation finds itself recovering from internal strife and external conflict, there are those who still embody the rugged individualism of the early explorers. There are those who still understand the founding purposes and strive to fulfill the vision of Starfleet. There are those who are still out there ...forging a new frontier.

Welcome to the Charybdis Sector, where a group of Federation citizens have chosen to strike out on their own and create their own colony. The colonists and the Merchant Service personnel assisting with the colonisation consider the USS Intrepid and Starfleet's presence as "overly paternal" and unwelcome. When disaster strikes, and the fate of the colony hangs in the balance, both sides must put aside their differences if they are to survive.

Star Trek: Hidden Frontier

http://www.hiddenfrontier.com/

Hidden Frontier is set after the Dominion War featured in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. When Rob Caves, Executive Producer created Hidden Frontier, he wanted to combine the best elements of the Next Generation era Trek shows he grew up with. On Hidden Frontier, we have a space station, Deep Space Twelve, as well as a starship, the Galaxy Class U.S.S. Excelsior, NCC-77246. This allows us to explore the Star Trek universe in just about any way our writers can imagine.

The series is set against the backdrop of the Briar Patch, a massive unexplored nebula on the fringe of explored space that was introduced in "Star Trek: Insurrection". Because of the composition of the Patch, warp travel there is impossible, so much of it's interior remains unexplored.

We encourage new viewers to "try us out" with our season 6 premiere episode, "Countermeasures". It's an episode that highlights many of our strengths. Then we welcome you to go back to the pilot and start watching from the beginning bearing in mind that it took us time to improve the quality of all aspects of the show to what it is today.

It's important to remember that Hidden Frontier is produced on no budget so instead of building fancy sets, piling on effects, and shooting in exotic locations, we've decided to focus on what we can improve. That means our stories became more character driven as the show evolved. After all, that's what Star Trek is really about. The people, and the human condition. Once the writing improved, we started to tackle areas like costuming and makeup.

Hidden Frontier tries to boldly follow what has come before while exploring new issues Star Trek has not yet tackled. The inclusion of a gay male character in season 2's "Encke" was yet another bold step forward for Star Trek. In the very same season we produced, "Cowards Death", a story that explored the realities of living with clinical depression. And later in season five "Security Counsel" explored a planet where the government was allowed to slowly chip away at its people's freedoms in an errie commentary on our troubled times. We hope you find our stories captivating and original, true to the spirit of Trek, and we hope you have as much fun watching the show as we did making it!
