For my fellow Americans, Happy Veterans Day.
I really cannot say how much I respect those poor bastards... I come from a military family, where my father's father was on a boat to invade Japan in WW2, his uncles serving in the Pacific theater, my mother's father and brothers being Army and Air Force, and my parents being Air Force. I signed up for Selective Service with pride, knowing I was doing my part, and would do my duty if called on. The military life wasn't what my parents wanted for me, and insisted I attend college, which I did. But I couldn't help feel like I wasn't doing enough for the country that helped raise me. When Michael Moore's F-9/11 movie was released, I felt ashamed that those men overseas were put in that position with little regard to the cost, and that I should be there. The second time I saw it I needed a stiff drink. I dare say if I had seen it a third time, I would have been at a Recruiter's office.
Right now, I'm a DoD contractor, and am planning on joining the Air Force Reserves after I move out of my parent's house.
To those that have come before me, and those who will come after me, who hear the call, my deepest respect.
