my social internship program has finally ended. I just arrived home (I actually fell asleep when posting yesterday so it's morning already) from saying good-bye to my Japanese and Korean friends at the airport and we all cried A LOT. and early good-bye to the Dutch in the afternoon. that was sad, but I also got lots of happy stories aside from the sad stories :)
a picture of my home while I was in the village
uhm, first I have to admit that I feel weird to be able to type using my laptop again 'cause I haven't touched it for a month so I feel awkward now.
anyway, the purpose of my social internship program (called Community Outreach Program = COP) is to help the undeveloped villages to get better, so we did a lot of physical things to help the village such as fixing the bridge (which I was in charge of) and the road. I also helped in teaching english, art, science etc. at the school and it was a lot of fun. I admit that I don't really like children but yeah I played with the children a lot. I even participated in playing as a doll for the puppet show, which was really interesting and the children laughed so much. I guess they enjoyed the puppet show so much.
and you might be wondering how was my life in the village. I lived with 2 Dutch and an Indonesian for a month. and, I ate rice 3 times a day. I usually eat bread or something light in the morning and sometimes I don't eat rice at night, but when I was in the village I had to eat rice 3 times a day. and I ALWAYS had eggs whenever I eat. I'm sick of eggs now so I might not eat eggs for the time being. I didn't eat meat since we all have to live in the village with kinda poor condition so I get to eat chicken for only once in a week. and maybe fish too, once in a week. I didn't eat ANY beef even though the villagers have some cows for their pet. and most of my daily food is spicy. apparently, my mother who took care of me while I was in the village loves spicy so we always have either something spicy or at least sambal.
FYI, one of the reason that I wanted to participate in this COP was 'cause I get to make new friends with foreigners. I had 3 Dutch, 4 Korean, 3 Japanese and 9 Indonesian including me. the Dutch weren't so friendly at first but they are all beautiful with blonde hair and light brown eyes. I got along well with 2 of them, named Esme and Laurine as they are my housemate so we often eat together and write diary together. the other one, Nikki has a father who was in Indonesia. she looked a little bit scary at first but she turned out to be so funny once I knew her better.
the Korean, played the crazy part. all the Koreans like to joke a lot and they've been very friendly with me since the beginning. So Mang, is the only girl who can speak english well. she's nice and she's beautiful. I like talking with her. the other girl, Yu Mi can't speak english well. but she's so funny 'cause she always dances all around and sing. both So Mang and Yu Mi really like children so they're popular!
the only male participants from overseas were only Ju Hun and Hwa Jun. Hun is a hentai 'cause he often makes hentai face but he's really nice. he really likes me that he hugged me a lot and he always greet me every morning. a really nice guy!
the other one, Jun is older and he was a bit quiet at first but once I knew him better, he always did stupid things and annoyed me together with Hun. he always called me 'babo' (stupid) though.
all the Japanese participants were all girls. I got along really well with this girl named Miki. she's really polite and she didn't talk loudly. I always told her about my otaku story and how I learned Japanese from anime and games LOL I have a really silent girl named Shizuka. I think the name fits her personality 'cause you rarely got questions from her. she usually answered whatever you asked her, but she almost never started conversation. but she's a lovely girl and beautiful that all the Indonesian guys like her. the last Japanese girl is also an exchange student at my university so she can speak Indonesian quite well, her name is Maho and her smile is pretty. she's from Osaka and she knew that I'm learning Japanese so she often spoke in Japanese a lot to me.
and the other participants were Indonesian, most of them are guy. Joyo can play guitar really well. Ryan cooked roasted chicken & beef a few times and they were fantastic. Denny nagged a lot and I called him Mama for that reason. Ayong always came to my house in the morning to go to my toilet 'cause he didn't have a toilet at his house in the village. Ricky was mistaken as a Korean for 8 times already. Nathan has a square-shaped face but he was really nice to me. Arum is a girl from another class but she could throw some jokes to break the silent. Devi is my roommate and is really neat 'cause she always cleaned the room that I messed up before.
we all got along really well that it was hard to let go of each other at the airport tonight. but we promised each other to visit to each other's country someday. there are actually participants from Hongkong but too bad that participants in my village canceled so I didn't have friends from Hongkong.
the last picture I took together with all my friends from the village, you can double click to see better picture.
(L-R: Arum, Miki, my field conselor, Shizuka, Ju Hun, Nikki, Ricky, Yu Mi, Maho, Ayong, So Mang, Laurine, Joyo, Hwa Jun, me, Nathan, Denny, Devi, Esme, Ryan)
that was taken after the closing ceremony so we all dressed in villager-like costume.
by the way I talked to an otaku today. the name's Yoshia and he's a Japanese participant from the other village. he's really weird that everyone knows about it. he even went to the net cafe just to watch K-ON!! via youtube. I laughed when he told me about that and said that I loved K-ON!! too. his favorite seiyuu is Kugimiya Rie. he asked me about what anime that I like or which seiyuu that I like. so I answered that I like Suzuki Tatsuhisa and Kuroshitsuji is one of my fandom, but too bad he doesn't know about Tatsun and his face went weird when I mentioned about Kuroshitsuji. I guess it's just not to his liking. and I told him that I also played otome game and he laughed at me! LOL
I asked whether he played some bishoujo game or had virtual girlfriend just like the ordinary Akihabara otaku I knew, and he said that he played bishoujo game too. he even wondered why I knew so much and could have guessed that from him, and I simply answered "mireba wakaru desshou" he was shocked and then laughed after I said that.
I have this funny story about the Korean that they always like my eyes. they think my eyes are beautiful 'cause I have eyelids on my eyes and they're big. I even got a Korean professor had a crush on me LOL things got even worse 'cause I was kidding to him by saying "Jo a hae" (I like you) hahaha.
and we also learned so many simple but stupid words mostly in Korean, like: babo, gwen chana, kyopta, byontae etc.
I opened my bag and found a lot of things I got from my friends: a planner from Jun, a notebook from Yu Mi, a picture of my face drawn by Hun (he's really good at drawing by the way), a dried maple leaf bookmard from Miki, a card which has everyone's testimonials about me and a picture of my 3 Dutch friends (Esme, Laurine and Nikki)
now I miss all of my friends already. I have their e-mail address so maybe we can all keep in touch and I'll never forget them as they've been part of my life for a month :) and I also miss my village. the scenery is really good and the people are really nice. me and my friends even wrote a lyrics for the village.
but now that I'm back at home I'll get back my daily routines and catch up with the recent anime xD
I also have a few books arrived while I was away so I'm going to enjoy them first.
oh, and too bad Germany lost in the world cup 2010 but at least they're in the 3rd place, I guess? I watched the final with my Dutch friends too and we all cheered for Netherlands to win, but too bad their country lost :( my mom bought a Zakumi doll for me, 'cause I told my parents to buy me one when Germany managed to get into semi-final :D
oh, and happy belated birthday to
yuliyudo and
nishitamachi :)
it's not that I forgot your birthdays, it's 'cause I couldn't text you 'cause I didn't get signal in the village and it was kinda difficult to find places where I got signal.
