LOL I'd never thought I'd make this game review so soon.
but well, since I enjoyed the game and I already played my favorite characters' routes so I thought I should. plus, I'm too lazy to do assignments
Harajuku Tantei Gakuen Steel Wood review
images taken with cellphone, 'cause I don't have screenshot-capture plugin xD
it's not that I've cleared the game, I somehow got that image in the CG album, I don't know how LOL
my first impression of this game was: everything looks just like Tantei Gakuen Q LOL
so the game started by you as the heroine (Horikita 'enter first name here') entering a detective school to fulfill your dead sister's dream to be a detective. on the first day of school, the students were divided into group of 4 people to solve the cases given by the school. then your journey to be a detective begins while solving the case and slowly getting involved in a love story with one of your team mates or even other guys..
Fuyo Kaoru (CV: Maeno Tomoaki)
I meant to go after Matsuyama first but I got distracted by Maenu's voice so I changed route right after the second case LOL I
so Kaoru plays the nice guy in the game who showers you with compliments and being really nice with you. But he's not in the same detective group with you, in fact he runs a fashion store in the town so you won't spend much times with him unless you decided to pick his route from the very beginning.
Kaoru can make you fall in love with him easily, but sadly it's not the heroine he falls in love with. actually, he's been in love with Horikita Aki, the heroine's sister since 7 years ago. and the reason why he likes to stare at you and being nice to you is just for a simple reason; 'CAUSE YOU LOOK JUST EXACTLY LIKE YOUR DEAD SISTER ;____;
it stabbed me, even I was quite shocked when I found out about that. though obviously he'd grow in love with the heroine later on, but I was annoyed by the fact that he kept comparing this and that to Aki, it pissed me off duh!
though I can forgive him 'cause he's being sooooo sweet in the ED; getting angry to Hirasaka-sensei 'cause he still called you with "Horikita" even though you married to Kaoru already, so he prefered his wife to be called by his last name "Fuyo"
isn't that sweet~ *dies*
Matsuyama Yuu (CV: Suzumura Kenichi)
the tsundere of the game. though tsundere isn't my type, I admit that I enjoy going after tsundere when he gets out of the shell and show his deredere side <3 Matsuyama (I call him this way 'cause the heroine kept calling him this way) is just the typical tsundere, born in a rich family living in a huge house, so he got reasons why he's being cold to people though actually he's quite nice.
and the thing I like from his story is his character's personality developed slowly as the story proceed; he started to smile & laugh, he started to care about his surrounding and he could spit out his minds clearly at the end of his story when his family company are involved in some kinda criminal activity. and compared to Kaoru's route I can say his route is more romantic (lots of hugs, kisses and shoujo manga-like scenes LOL) so I went doki-doki a lot during the later part xD
but his ED is just so-so... I mean, he and the heroine ended up being together and promised to aim to detectives together on the school's rooftop, and that's it o__O no epilogue, 5 years later story or such things!!! I want more D:
overall, the game is quite amusing. what kept me playing this game thoroughly was the gameplay. it's how you solve the cases. though you've probably seen these kinda cases from either Maitantei Conan or Tantei Gakuen Q or even other detective series, they're still interesting. even though this game is categorized as visual novel, Otomate made the gameplay interesting so it's not just ordinary visual novel but also mixed with mystery and strategy xD
but the annoying part is, why did Otomate always cut off the important scenes??? o___O
for example, like when Kaoru got to you closely and said "well, I did promise you a lunch so why don't we go now?" then the screen faded and I thought I was gonna proceed to a decent restaurant, in fact the story proceeded to the next day where the heroine woke up on her bed WTFSDHASJDHASJ?!?! give me back my previous lunch time with Kaoru!! D:
or the star gazing scene where Kaoru took you to the rooftop and showed you the winter starry sky. not long after he mentioned that it was his favorite place, the scene soon faded and moved on to the story again *sigh* aren't they supposed to talk about romantic things?!
but luckily, that didn't really happen to Matsuyama's story 'cause the lovey-dovey scenes that I expected are all shown clearly 8D without cut off, yay. I guess they need to fix Kaoru's story.
and the artwork! it's really cute, especially the chibi version <3 <3 if they ever publish the fanbook then I'll have to buy it. I love the artwork!! and the coloring is just simple but pretty!
actually I still have Misato Hibiki (CV: Kaji Yuuki) to play as I grew to like him, but nah.. I'll play his route later 'cause I've been procrastinating too much lately and abandon my assignments so I probably add his review later on.
