Characters: L, Yoji Kudou, Anna

Rating: I don't see this getting above PG-13.

L was always up first. He had taken over a section of the living room which was now covered from wall to wall with screens. Somehow he always had sweets in front of him, though if anyone were watching no one actually brought them. They just simply appeared probably as soon as he thought of whatever it was he wanted. Yoji was more than a little creeped out by the all the screens. He had to remind himself that there were rooms that didn't show up, mainly those he and Anna had claimed for themselves, along with their respective bathrooms. Anna was more comfortable in the small den area that was just off of the living room. She, at first, had seem quite displeased with their new living arrangements, but after a few days she seemed to come to a decision and now she always greeted both Yoji and L with a warm smile in the morning before working on her computer and then talking a daily walk, which Yoji had found out was a way for her to explore what limits existed in their new home.

The first day it had happened he had asked her what she had discovered. "I'm afraid not much, Mr. Kudou. I've seen no one else and ours is the only private residence I've glimpsed. I did find a small park before I returned." She answered as she got something to drink from the refrigerator.

"Call me Yoji, please." He gave his patented Yoji Kudou grin. "Having a park sounds nice." He managed to hide his disappointment at hearing they seemed to be the only people here. Anna was quite attractive so he wasn't going to complain. Although he didn't see it he was certain L was listening to their conversation. The kitchen, after all, wasn't off limits to the cameras and it wasn't very far from the living area.

"Thank you, Yoji." She grinned as she sat down. They hadn't spoken much since then, but he figured that would change as soon as she was content with whatever she seemed to be looking for.

After a moment his mind came back to the present. "Anything new?" He asked the other man as he sipped his coffee. He didn't like the quiet, though luckily he had managed not to have any nightmares since his arrival.

"I am afraid not." L answered never taking his eyes from the screens. "I do believe others might join us here." He said as he bit the edge of his thumb.

"Really?" That made Yoji take notice. Anna seemed more interested in finding a way out than getting used to the place. He should be helping her he supposed, but then he had been here a while and seen others come and go so he was more used to it than her. He could say for certain he didn't miss Brad, but he missed Aya. Even L seemed...well okay Yoji didn't know what to think of him so he guessed he didn't mind it here. Also, it said something that he was getting used to the other man when he didn't even ask how he had come to this conclusion.

"Yes." L nodded taking a sip of what was once tea, but now had so much sugar in it that it was hard to recognize. "I will be aware when they arrive so we will have some warning."

"I kind of figured with all the cameras." Yoji grinned slightly. He wouldn't mind more people. He saw movement out of the corner of his eye and realized Anna was standing just a few inches away from his shoulder. Oh way to hone those assassin skills there, Kudou, he thought to himself before grinning up at her. "It's good to see you, Anna."

"Thank you." She said though she seemed to be paying more attention to L than him. Yoji didn't do jealousy and he could tell her look wasn't that kind of look. Actually, he wasn't sure he liked it now that he thought about it. "Do you think these others might show up soon."

L shook his head. "I'm not sure." He bit the edge of his thumb again in thought. "Are you expecting someone in particular, Anna?" He actually turned from the cameras to glance at her intently.

"No, not really." She answered as she moved closer to the screen wall. "I am simply curious as to what they might be like."

"If I know anything of our host I think I am curious as well." He turned back to the screens almost as if dismissing the two other people in the room.

"Is that why you watch?" Anna said relatively close to L's shoulder now.

"No." He went back to his tea hitting a button on the desk in front of him which moved up a computer screen and keyboard.

"There's no one you would like to see?" Anna said putting her hand on his chair.

"No." He didn't seem uncomfortable at her closeness working on whatever it was that he had pulled the screen up for.

"I guess it's my turn to cook." Yoji said as he finished the last of his coffee. "I think L is taking care of himself, so what would you like, Anna?"

She turned from L to give him a warm smile. "Please feel free to make whatever you would like. I think it might be nice to be surprised a little."

"Okay." Cooking was something a lot of people didn't expect Yoji to be good at, but the truth was he had lived by himself for so long it was either that or spend a lot of money on takeout every day.

The rest of their day was pretty calm. He and Anna ate. He noticed she seemed more comfortable somehow and the two of them talked probably the most they had since he had first seen her here. L continued to watch paying very little attention to them. Yoji thought back to Anna's question. Was the other man expecting something, or someone?

"I feel as if I I've been quite rude, Yoji. You've been so kind and I'm afraid I've not been very good company. Perhaps you would like to play a game." She gestured to an area of the den that had games which included Checkers, Chess, Clue and Go.

"Sure." He smiled. "Why don't you get things ready while I clean up. We can play whatever you prefer. I'll warn you though I'm probably not good at any of them."

"I'm very certain you are better than you might think." She grinned before leaving the room.

It didn't take very long and Yoji took his seat. L actually left his screens sitting in his peculiar way as he watched them begin to play.

It was late evening and they had played a few games. Anna had won the first one, but Yoji could tell by her smile she suspected he was more interested in her company than actually winning.

Night came pretty quickly as the three of them went back to routines they were more used to. Anna found a book and settled herself in a comfortable chair. L went back to his screens and Yoji straightened up then had his nightly glass of wine.

It was all very nice, and somewhat familiar. Yoji supposed he'd be happy if other people came, especially if Aya came back, but for now he liked things the way they were. His only complaint was there should be a bar. Just one with good music and a bartender who knew what they were doing. It wasn't much to ask for he figured.
