Gah. I rarely write about the business of posting stuff to LJ because that way lies moaning about how no-one ever posts any more and that quickly becomes reductive and tiresome. However, it's just as easy to fall out of the habit as it is to fall into it.
Anyway. Arseholes to all of that.
The steppers turned up from HK and are more or less not what I wanted for what I had in mind. This was tiresome for about thirty seconds. Then I discovered that vast tracts of the information about how to drive these particular steppers properly was of the Loud, Confident and Wrong variety, and a new opportunity for tinkering arrived.
Did you know that if you run stepper motors wrong, the motors and all the ICs involved get really quite warm?
Some digging later and I have the fine AccelStepper library installed which works much more better. I think I'll need to buy a couple more Arduino boards though. That way I can have one in each extant project and still have one spare for new experiments. Oh, and the Tilda board from EMFCamp, which I still haven't worked out how to drive properly.
