Sudden sari regency dress project

A sudden Regency daywear tea has appeared on my schedule for this coming Sunday, and since my dark blue cotton day dress needs serious fixing, and my other day dress is wool, I decided to finally make up the cotton sari I bought from Julia years ago. Of course, while looking at mockups and things I remembered the dress I made for the cancelled picnic this past spring! D'oh! I have two days off in a row (including today) so I will charge ahead and not let the presence of a suitable dress keep me from pretending I have a near deadline. A lack of near deadline generally spells ruin for my motivation, y' see.

So today I cut out the skirt and added two rows of border to the bottom, which proved surprisingly difficult....it's tricky to sew straight something that was printed crooked! Lots of futzing occurred, in addition to the pins sliding RIGHT out of the fabric because it's so loosely-woven. I barely had to touch them for them to decide they wanted out of the fabric, right after I'd put them in!  The discovery of a nicely-fitting mockup from when I was testing Laughing Moon's bib-front pattern made my day a lot better, however. I popped on my pink 1830 corset (because I have misplaced the busk for my earlier-dated long stays, haha), made sure the mockup fit, and started cutting the bodice. There was a lot of dithering deciding whether to have border all around the neckline, which meant I had to recut the back to go straight across (and recut the shoulder straps to accomodate the new neckline) but the bodice is cut out sans border.

Poorly lit picture is poorly lit

I haven't decided how to construct yet - whether to bag-line, which the instructions direct and which would make the neckline a LOT tidier - or to flatline, which would keep the seam allowances from showing through the very, very sheer sari fabric. I decided to ponder it at leisure and stop for the evening. I think I made pretty good progress, considering I got up late and made up the teacup bag's lining first, so the regency sewing didn't even start until almost noon. And I don't even actually need it for Sunday! Huzzah! My new plan is to wear the stripy dress on Sunday and this dress to the Pumpkin Tea, assuming I can arrange to go.

BUT BUT BUT tonight is the premiere of Season 2 of Lucifer! So excite. I set an alarm on my phone and everything in case I get sucked back into sewing (or reading, which is more likely at this point).
