after much wailing and gnashing of teeth

When my bodice was DETERMINED to be a @#%$!, despite the mockup having gone together quite well, I'm at the point of whipping the piping down on the inside of the neckline. I didn't know that gathered overlay-things had to be made longer than their corresponding linings - apparently I did it by accident on my striped day dress? - so when I had the overlay basted on it made the lining buckle at the waist and over the bust and so on. It would only be obvious what it was if you knew it was there, but because the fabric is so sheer it was definitely visible, and it made me really mad! That lining fit just fine in the mockup stage! And then the neckline was suddenly Gaposisland, which was just irritating icing on the frustration cake. There was a lot of costume!sulking this morning, let me tell you!

But miss_philomena advised me of the 'gathered thing must be longer' thing, which confirmed what my bodice had been trying to tell me through buckling and making itself into tucks and so on, and I repinned it so the overlay lay within the lining edges rather than right along them, which mostly solved the problem. I yoinked up the shoulder seam a bit and gathered the overlay-cum-lining to take care of 90% of the gaposis, and sewed the piping to the neckline, and I'm content enough with the fit now to make the piping Permanent. Hurray! I'd meant to spend all day sewing, since I only really have today and tomorrow to sew, but that clearly didn't happen. Best Laid Plans, wot! At least sister+nephew flew home this morning, so I shan't have any other obligations to distract me.

And I have yet to cut out sleeves, and the skirt can't be put on a waistband until I see where I'm putting the waist on the bodice... At least the sleeves are going to be so gathered I don't need to futz with fit? I also want to make a nice huge sash with some big puffy butt-bows in the same satin I used for the skirt-stripes.

Now I'll sit down with my handsewing and watch S.2 of Killjoys (which I just discovered has occurred). Or eat dinner. Or both...

running out of time, i suck at fitting, allaire village, 1830s, 1830s daffodil dress
