Summary of the day

Dec 13, 2015 21:34

Woke up feeling hungover (but I wasn't, so it was majorly unfair) and couldn't go back to bed because I had to get ready. Sadface.
At least I finished the bonnet last night? Complete with a bow that looks like it belongs on a present, hehe.
Managed some epically derptastic front-curls, but of course they were too long, so I made some anachronistic braids around which I wrapped each curl a few times to shorten them, then crossed the braids over my head. Mostly hidden by my bonnet so that was okay. If I hadn't had the bonnet I probably would have done a simple swoopy-sorta-thing on each side instead of Derp!curls.

Packing was a matter of 5 minutes which was AMAZING. I'd been looking forward to the quick 'n' easy packing for about a week, haha. About as much as the event itself, probably, lame as that sounds.

Got to Allaire, et lunch, lots of people got some picturesque photos of Historical Wawa Lunches (complete with plastic bags, of course). Took requisite New Outfit!photos against a door with a wreath. Look! A new dress! I definitely need to take back out the 2" I added to the sleeves, though. And the cuff kept travelling so I might reverse the direction of the overlap. Will these things ever happen? Uuuuhhh.....

Then we got in a looong line for a carriage(wagon) ride, which would apparently have moved faster had it not been so stupidly warm outside. The horses were getting overheated, it seems.  (Side note: clearly I should have idly wished for cool Christmassy weather a few weeks in advance, but I didn't. If I had it would likely have snowed, y' see! So the blame lies with me.)
While waiting for the carriage(wagon) we were accosted by a couple of local newspersons, a blogger-type, and some very friendly and enthusiastic friends of misspeachum, who seemed delighted to see us and wondered how on earth we knew her. "We're the random strangers she met online, of course!" Not creepy AT ALL.

Also sewloud and mandie_rw got their silhouettes done while I held our place in The Long Line. I wasn't bored; I read on my phone while craftily hiding it in my program! After the quite-short-ride we stopped into a shop to see Tessa, had a wee tour of the Big House - the tour guide had plenty of corny jokes, some of which we may have missed due to the small child wailing the whole time that he wanted to GO GO GO GO OUT GO GO. Hint: maybe take him outside if he wants to go THAT BADLY? It's not like his mother likely got much out of the tour anyway, with all the soothing in between his wailing.

Tessa found us outside the big house, but not before there was some selfie-taking and photobombing. Thanks for the great pics, Amanda!

After the tour we trotted off to the General Store where Robin got a bird for her hair Christmas tree, and I got a postcard for my niece in Portsmouth. There's a story here: I sent her Christmas present addressed to her, which delighted her IMMENSELY (that she got post addressed to her - she hasn't opened the present yet of course), so now of course I'll have to send her more post. And she's learned to read and is by all reports enjoying it a lot, so: postcard!  We also tried to make it to the bakery before they closed but didn't make it in time. I'll just have to make my own mince pies. What a hardship! We wondered if the bread they used in place of wreaths on the windows was real; a Poke Test confirmed it.

We encountered a wild phonebox en route to the parking lot! Very exciting. A family coming up the sidewalk were pretty entertained by the combination of Amanda on the phone and us snapping photos with our smartphones, haha.

All photos here. (The ones of me are yoinked from Amanda and Robin, I should note.)
