Last night I finally finished all the bones and made little pieces of two layers of canvas to hold the horizontal bones and basted those inside the fronts. At one point I held the stays up to my dress form and noticed that the front shoulder strap bits miiiiiight be too far forward. Naturally I had to wait to try on the stays to know for sure. So today I did that, and sure enough, the strap-stub-things should probably be trimmed about a half an inch at the top, eased into the current neckline. But somehow the waist is very uncomfortable, particularly at the side-to-back.
Not sure how this happened, since I didn't change the height of the waist from the first version of these stays, which are very comfortable. Well, I changed the waistline/tab-ending-line, but only at the very front, where it goes down to the point anyway and doesn't matter. It's really vexing and I hope it isn't a problem when I actually wear them. While I had them on I tried on a few garments just to test fit, and although these stays don't seem to be any smaller than the others when I have them laced comfortably, at least the neckline isn't way too high or too low or something?
I'm stubbornly not working on the shoulder strap-trimming right now because I'm irritated at the waistline. So there.
This morning I also got going on the Cherry Bounce I've been meaning to make for...oh....over a year at this point. I have had the cherries for quite a while and bought some spiced rum a couple of weeks ago but never got around to mashing the cherries, etc. But since I actually started it before fall it will be ready in time for Gettysburg, yay! The juice-sugar-rum mixture is currently sitting in the fridge until tomorrow afternoon, when the recipe informs me I can do the next step.
