I'm currently stuck in Cardiff. I brought along my unadorned stomacher and several long strips of fabric with gathering stitches along both edges (which I put about half an hour before I left for the airport >.> ) and I managed to gather them and sew them on within a couple of days of arriving, much to my surprise. However, naturally I left the braid trim at home, thinking I wouldn't need it! Of course I do, I find - the gathering thread is super-visible, and I'd really like to cover it up. And even the piece of trim I have at home likely isn't long enough to do all the strip-sides. I was saving it for my petticoat, but if it's long enough to finish off the stomacher I may just do without. Stomacher is a bit closer to people's eyes than petticoat, anyway.
And the bottom ruffle... as it is, the ruffle sticks over the edge of the stomacher by about 3/8", so the gathering thread isn't actually over the stomacher. My dilemma is whether to trim it so the edge of the ruffle lies along the edge of the stomacher, or just let the edge stick out? Hrm hrm hrm. So the plan at the moment is to run to JoMar - sadly about twice as far away now! Boo hoo! - Thursday evening when I get back to PHL, hopehopehope they have more of the trim, and then I needn't worry about having enough! Wouldn't that be nice! Even if I find it, I have to sew it all on, then pleat my petticoat and decorate my petticoat. Complete with ruffles and trim and things. By Saturday. And I have work on Friday. Ack! (At least I finished hemming the gown before I left!)
In other news - there are signs on posts in Cardiff, brown arrows that indicate points of interest, with Daleks on them. Street signs with Daleks, that's right. They're for a Doctor Who exhibition, and the only reason I haven't gone is that I haven't anyone to go with! Neither my sister nor my brother-in-law are Doctor Who fans, not even a little bit. Probably have never seen a single episode. I may end up going, because I've been told by a friend that I Really Must, but I dunno. A bit dull on my own, I think.
