Today I, uh, cut the matelasse into two pieces. I poked and prodded it for a while trying to figure out where I could cut it to maximize length and still have the hem end at the same place on the pattern on both front and back. I discovered to my delight that the pattern is symmetrical up and down, so I just cut right across the middle of one set of motifs, almost at the center of my piece, and flipped the pieces so they were side by side. ALSO awesome: the pattern basically matches selvedge to selvedge, so with some careful sewing it will look very nearly as though the pattern was put on after the petticoat was sewn, rather than before. Yay! (Not that anyone will likely be looking that closely at my petticoat, but I'm glad I don't have to futz around with where to make the side seams) I pinned up one side and that's as far as I got today before work. I have to work tomorrow, too, so I rather doubt I'll get much done for the next few days.
