I'm having a problem with my cat. I'm talking about Sebastion's daughter, Nashira. Sebastion is the cat we brought with us when we came to this neighborhood, so nobody can dispute that.
When she was a tiny kitten, she came up to me while I was in the yard watching Ricky practice swordfighting with a friend. She'd come over every day, to see us. Eventually we started feeding her, since she was skin and bones. She belonged to a neighbor on the other side of our house (not the woman i mention later).
Then one day I was listening to a Jehovah's Witness and a cat ran into the house past me. I thought it was 'Bastion, but it was really 'Shira. At that point, she became 'our' cat.
We fed her up from skin and bones, got her a collar, kept her inside from the time we got home every day (7 am) til the time we left for work (10 pm), and generally loved and took care of her.
Months pass, and 'Shira becomes pregnant. With Diddle's babies. Now the lady who lives across the road has a sudden interest in her. A week or so before she gave birth, that woman kept her locked in a pet carrier, outside, with it being hot as Hades out, for days, 'to protect her from all those male cats'. Every morning when we got home, we'd hear her, meowing at the top of her lungs, just yelling for help..Four days later, the woman had to go to another state, so she let her out and left.
'Shira immediately came inside and would not leave. We'd open the door to kick her out for the night when we'd go to work, and she would not take a step outside. Three days later, she had her kittens in my living room. A couple days after that, yesterday, that woman came home from Kentucky.
'Shira had gotten brave enough to get some fresh air, and that woman followed her home. She asked if we'd seen the kittens, and I said yes, inside. So the woman said, 'Oh really!' and made a beeline for our front door. She went in, looked at the kittens, made insinuations about taking them all home once they can be moved, and eventually (after i said they shouldn't be moved) left.
We found a place to live that day, and called our landlady to let her know. Landlady called that woman, and let HER know. So as soon as I'd gotten home from an errand, that woman came over to talk about 'Lucky'.
"So I heard you're moving"
"Yea."
"I made an appointment for 'Bobby' at the vet's tomorrow. He seems to be getting a lot worse, so I'm just gonna take him up there and get him seen to."
('Bobby' is Sebastion, MY cat, and his cold is NOT getting worse.)
"Oh really, well, I'd rather take him, so I can talk to the vet and know what's going on."
"Oh, are you sure, it's no problem."
"Yea, I'm sure."
"Oh, well, I wanted to talk about Lucky too. I was thinking maybe you'd like to keep that black kitten, since he looks like your cat that died. And we didn't know how y'all would feel about that, since she had them in your house. Like I was telling her, we don't know y'all at all..."
"Oh yea, well, we've always thought of her as our cat. She's over here morning noon and night, we've always taken care of her.."
"Well I took her to the vet when that dog bit her ear off, and when that kid snapped her leg..the vet said she'd have to have surgery if we want her to walk straight, so I have papers on her and everything. So like I said, if you want that black kitten that's ok."
"Well, let me talk to Ricky about it."
"Ok, well see you later."
********
So my question is, how can I take MY cat and her kittens with me when I move, without that woman calling the cops on me. She has papers (but she would have had papers for 'Bastion if I hadn't found out about her plan to take him to the vet!), so I'm not sure if she has a legal claim for her.
I'm really really worried about this, if anyone has any firsthand knowledge about this kinda thing, or any idea where I can look online (everthing I looked up was about divorce custody battles), I would kiss you.
