I totally agree with you. Drinking age in Canada is 19 which is not bad, but I'm always in the US and I feel SO YOUNG because I can't order or a glass of wine with dinner. If kids can go off to war at 18, they should be allowed to drink at 18, end of story. If the government deems you responsible enough to handle a weapon and fight for your country, I'm pretty sure you're responsible enough to drink.
And that is totally true about it being this like 'forbidden' thing - I drank way more when I was younger because it was cool and contraband. Granted, I still drink a lot now, but the mystique of the whole thing is gone. haha, I am bitter and old!
It's weird, where I go to school alcohol is a big part of our culture - people are always drinking with the profs and the fellows and we have wine receptions all the time, and the faculty basically just overlooks the drinking age for a lot of things. But for the rest of my university (I'm at a very small college in U of T which is huge) it isn't like that, and I hear that there are a lot of campuses in the states that are totally dry - that's so crazy!! Alcohol is a big part of my life, socially, so it seems weird to me.
