so I'm sure those of you who actually took the time to apply to more than just 3 or 4 school know exactly what I mean in saying that this year's applicant pool was the largest and most competitive in history for almost every college in the US. Highly qualified students are plagued with rejection letters from even their safety school because there simply isn't room or they were one of many unfortunate applicants that had their application in a pile of unseen rejections because admissions officers did not have the time to look over every application quickly enough. I am not saying this because of my own rejections, of which there have been several, because I have also had acceptances. I'm writing this because the trend we're seeing right now is, no matter how brilliant you happen to be, it doesn't matter if you are not seen, or if you are not diverse enough for a campus. It's sad that this is how things are handled now in the admissions world, though many applicants deserve the rejection, dont take this as a racist comment, but you, pretty little white girl from maine WILL be rejected over anyone who is in a minority group, no matter how amazing your scores are, no matter how good your recommendations are-- it simply doesn't matter. so there's my rant for tonight. i went to see a college this weekend that i WAS accepted to... but I still felt like sharing my thoughts.
