It's all political and financial. They've been shopping for a network to produce the T.V. show since 1998. They were signed with Dreamworks for awhile, before switching to Showtime. They wanted to find the network that would allow them the most creative freedom, but I don't think PBS could give them the budget they wanted to be so cinematic. But now Showtime has the rights to make the radio/T.V. segments into movies, like, and I wish I was joking, Unaccompanied Minors. Everything's so darn complicated.
