Happy Birthday to me!

Dec 07, 2005 15:14

Well well well, so i'm finally 21. I must say it feels pretty good. not because i can drink legally or any thing like that (i didn't even get drunk) but more so because now i am finally an adult and am no longer excluded from places or things (except renting a car, where you have to be 25 for some reason.... seems silly to me). Anyways, the partying kicked off on SUNDAY night when i had a nice small birthday party at home with my family. Then, THURSDAY at midnight when Brian, John, Pat, and I went to the Deli for a celebratory round of the main event. i got a long island ice tea, which really does, suprisingly, taste like iced tea! I was impressed. FRIDAY night, Brian and I went out to le ol' Olive Garden for a nice dinner and some delicious red wine, and then hung out. SATURDAY also, was fun- Brian and I got all dressed up sexy and went to my roomate, Molly's formal for her acapella group, Savoir Faire. Unfortunately, Brian wasn't feeling well, but i still got to dance and had a good time.

The creme de la creme of it all however, did not come until TUESDAY, when I got to play stage-hand, yet again, to one of my favorite bands ever, the Dave Matthews Band, at the BJC. This year was like, a thousand times better then last year! The roadies who travelled with their crew remembered me, and I had more confidence and was starting up conversations and connections left and right. It was so much fun. I also got to polish Carter's entire drumset again as well as all his cymbols, and he gave me a giant hug every time he saw me and said i did a fabulous job. I got to talk to his drum tech too alot, and he was a really nice guy as well, who also said i did really good work. (Just as a disclaimer, i'm not trying to brag or anything like that, I'm just still really excited and starstruck that i got to hang out with my favorite band for an entire day, and that they liked me and my work.) It was really realy cool. I didn't flip out and go crazy though. I think what made it so cool was that I knew they were just ordinary people- no better than anyone else, and that broke down any barriers that i may have had last year when i felt like i couldn't talk to them cause they were "stars" or whatever bs like that. So i just treated them like ordinary people- said "hey hows it going?", etc. and they in turn, i feel, respected me back. My only regret is that i still didn't really get up the guts to talk to Dave himself. I had a nice conversation with Boyd Tinsley, and Stephan Lassard, and even kissed Carter Beauford for good luck before he went on-stage, but i guess Dave is still a little idolized in my mind. Hopefully i'll get over that by next year, when they come back. Dave did, however, make silly faces at me and do a silly dance backstage to make me laugh. So that was really cool. Besides meeting the band, and chatting with them, the night was really cool cause i got to see almost the entire show from right on the side of the stage. and the show was AWESOME! They played almost all of my favorite songs, including, Christmas song, Hunger for the Great Light, Seek Up, Warehouse, and more, and they also had tons of improv jamming which was wicked awesome. All in all, it was a fantastic concert and i had some of the best seats in the house!

So, to sum it all up, I think i had a pretty awesome birthday this year. And i definately want to work the DMB concert again next year. They are such cool, sweet guys- and they will continue to rank as my favorite band for a long time to come. So hip hip hooray! For the best birthday ever! :)
