Modern story telling is really fucking difficult. Everything has been said before, tackled in one way or another. Being a lover of Film and Literature, as so many are, I find I hear the same old story over and over again in the same way. It's boring at best...
Mass Effect 3 (A video game) has thoroughly blown my socks off in that regard. Never before have I actually been questioning my actions in such a fashion. It allows you to carry over your individual story from the two previous games and STILL manages to weave intricate intrigue around sound game play and incorporate those oh-so-personal elements from actions performed games ago.
The question it raised at the end, which I will not divulge - people who ruin story endings are worse than Hitler, really stuck with me. All I really wanted to do was bone Mordin Soulis and have lizard babies. I didn't expect my very approach to our existence to come to mind when I finished the game.
What sort of world is it I live in when I don't think about why I exist until a video game brings up the issue?
So here's a big glass of Thessian Whiskey to the gorgeous people at Bioware for not making more mindless bull shit. (See Call of Duty, Gears of War and Barbie Race and Ride)
