Might pick back up WoW when Cataclysm hits. My major interest is finally being able to combine Tauren and Paladin. I can understand that. Thrall and Cairne are easily two of my favorite characters in the series, and I was hoping that with King Genocide on the Alliance side, the Horde would end up being the sensible ones in the long run. Alas. Blizzard wants the two factions to wage war, and that's fine, but there are so many reasons to do so besides "lol ancient blood feuds." They even gave one very compelling reason themselves that they've stated but apparently only use to justify "skirmishes" from what we've heard so far: the world's resources are reduced and people are scared. People are in a panic, no one knows what's going to happen to Azeroth. We can't say King Wrynn flat out refused to work with the Horde, and war was declared out of necessity of grabbing enough resources to keep their people alive in the long run?

Really?

Then again, I have a feeling whoever is writing the story doesn't care about making the Horde and Alliance shades of grey. I mean, we had a case of Poor Communication Kills during the invasion of Undercity in Wrathgate. Thrall could have TRIED to reach out to Wrynn and fix things, and if Wrynn was still a jackass, so be it. But no, Thrall just remained silent until it was time to FIGHT.

Hah, I'll do you worse, and on a subject you as a Night Elf player might be familiar with: How can the Night Elves forgive the Highborne, allowing them back into their fold, after, you know, sundering the world and cavorting with arcane powers that have habits of bringing angry demons into Azeroth...but won't sit down and have a nice chat with the Orcs about some trees?

It does piss me off, because Stormwind sure as hell has woodwork going on along with their masonry. You'd think they'd get over themselves or try to work out something with the orcs, but no. WE MUST FITE. I can almost let the Highborne thing go because Night Elves are complete dumbasses in general, but I'm sure it won't be viewed by the other races as total folly--everyone else will likely just say "oh ok" and move along.

I'm pretty sure you, me, and a couple other creative minds we know could do a hell of a better job with political intrigue and worldbuilding than whoever is doing their damn writing right now. I just find it strange that they're moving toward being more story-centric but they can't even avoid major plotholes that even suspension of disbelief can't cover.

Glad I'm not the only one chomping on, mulling this new lore all over like a piece of rubbery jerky, but the kicker for all this insanity--at least to me, and the Highborne seems to have become the focus for this lorestorm--is how unnecessary it was to bring the Highborne in to justify arcane magic and Mages.

How hard was it to do all that story work, especially when motherfucking newly-awakened Malfurion Stormrage is probably gonna slap every Highborne he sees for a good month, if not for the rest of his waking life, when the Night Elves could have just said, "Guys, seriously, we're about to get royally pwned by this dragon. How about we not hate or punish people by death for using magic, since we obviously need bigger gun?" But, nooo! Highborne!

Like going around all the bases, when you can just pull something from the dug out.

Yeah, they COULD have just started a movement of night elves inspired by the mages of Dalaran. They could have spoken loftily of learning from the mistakes of the Highborne. It would help tie this expansion and the next together. Malfurion could still be pissy about it, but then again, I just like the idea of a pissy Stormrage.

When I first heard about Cataclysm, my head was spinning giddy considering all the awesome possibilities of a catastrophic, world-changing event, and how desperate and dire it could get having Deathwing and Azshara and whatever Old Gods are still around coming out of the woodwork. But what we know so far is sounding... meh. I'm happy to get Worgen, but the story as it's panning out is becoming such a turn-off, because there's desperation, and then there's blindly ignoring your own lore for the sake of war and lulz. I'm hoping Blizzard reconsiders some of this crap, but I doubt it.

It's definetly not been a strong point of Blizzard, to screw with their planned lore at their subscriber's demands--with good reason--but there's certainly enough lore-related outrage on the official forum to, hopefully, make them sit up and take notice.

I was turned off by the presentation of the 'cinematic'(poorly done, at that), but I think I stopped watching after the fourth of fifth time they did the old/new transition between pre-Cataclysm and post-Cataclysm. Got kinda overblown, but I must admit, the Worgen in human form with the top hat made me want a top hat of my own. Very Werewolf in London feel, but mostly I hope killing NPCs in Gilneas gets you a top hat. My Taurens would look beast with one of those and a monocle, eh, jolly good show, old boy? /monocle
