had us all very worried tonight. She came home from her walk, saying some guy had stopped his car and asked her the way to Westgate (the road he was on), then asked her if she'd get in the car. She said he was in a blue-green station wagon, and black with an accent, as if English wasn't his first language. She did the right thing and said no, then headed straight to the house. But the thing is, she wasn't freaked out by this. Her flippancy amazed us. She just didn't understand the implications of the suggestion that guy made up. She was convinced he asked her as a prank. If that's the case, that's like making a bomb joke in an airport. Joke or not, it must be taken seriously. And she got all irritated when Dad said she couldn't walk alone like that anymore. She thought we were overreacting. It took us a while, and the story of Jim Gallagher's (permanently rape-and-abuse-damaged) sister, to convince her that we weren't. Now she's gone in the total opposite direction. Now she's freaking out and crying, etc. She never seems to be able to react to anything without going to the extreme. I mean, she doesn't need to be freaking out, but I do prefer that over the flippancy. That scared us. If I'd been there, I'd have told the guy to withdraw his request if he preferred to keep his balls in their sack.
