Reviving Stained Wood Furniture + Regrouting Tile

I have a 60s era Danish Modern buffet that I'm really fond of and would like to clean up a bit. I've refinished some furniture but this piece is a) laminate and b) in really great condition except for staining on the top. I've done some research and it seems like there are a few products that can clean and restore damaged wood, so what I would really love is recommendations on specific stuff you've used that worked really well. The stains are some combination of water marks and heat damage, the laminate is still in fine condition, there are just a few spots of lightening/darkening that I would love to get rid of or at least reduce.

Our new place has that tragic big ceramic tile with the wide grouting that was so popular during the 70s in the kitchen and bathrooms. It's a few years before it's going to be practical to just rip all that stuff out, so I'm looking for inexpensive and simple ways to improve it. I'd love to regrout the tile to at least clean up the look a little bit, and the how-to stuff I've read makes it sound pretty easy. For those of you that have done regrouting, how was it? Pretty straight forward and simple? If you know offhand about how much the process cost and how long it took you, that would be great to know.

ETA: The ceramic tiling is on the counters, not the floors. I have no idea if that makes a difference in the project, however.
