Hey guys,
I live in an apartment with a garbage disposal in the double sink and a dishwasher. We never use the dishwasher because we don't dirty enough dishes in a short enough time to ever run a full load; it's just easier to hand wash everything. About every two months or so I will walk into the kitchen and it just smells bad, and by the time I open the dishwasher it has standing water at the bottom that is just rancid. I run an empty dishwasher cycle and that takes care of the water and the smell. Any idea why this is happening? Does it have to do with the garbage disposal? I originally thought it was because my husband would use the dishwasher as a huge drying rack and I figured the water dripping off the dishes was pooling, but I made him stop doing that a long time ago. It's not a huge nuisance, but if I could avoid having to do this and encountering that awful smell that would be great.
Thanks!
