would it be a big pain in the bum to do stairs with it though? i can imagine needing to balance the canister while you use the instruments/foot, and it seems like it'd be awkward.

I was rethinking what I said, but only because it would be more difficult for large carpeted areas. It is perfect for carpeted stairs. It is super small and you hold that in one hand while you use the hose in the other hand. You aren't going to beat the sucking power of a Shop Vac.

I freaking love my Eureka Mighty Mite for stairs and other such uses (also fantastic for vacuuming out cars!). My mom has had the same one for probably 15+ years now. Mine is something like 8-9 years old, and it's such a trooper.

The Euro Pro Multi Vac is pretty good. I have five cats and it always gets the fur cleaned off the carpets and couches.

I have a handheld Dirt Devil that I got from Sears for around $50. It does a great job on the stairs. The only issue is that the canister is kind of small so it takes three trips to do the set of stairs.

Not sure on the price as I bought it with points, but I love my handheld Dyson. Great for getting the stairs and getting any random bug or spider I might see.

I do too, but I'm fairly sure it's above that price range. I think mine was $150 or thereabouts?
