This is going to sound strange but I'm curious.
What's it mean to be "cool"?
What do you have to do to be cool?

So it's going against what's normal? A lot of the things I see here I wouldn't consider normal back home.

And sometimes, yes. Again, it really depends on the person you're speaking to.
The fact that a lot of things aren't exactly 'normal' here means that there is a new 'normal' to adjust to, if you are aiming to go against it.

Even those still living here seem not to know everything about Johto.
It's interesting learning though.
That might be for the best.
Personally, I feel 'being cool' is rather overrated.
Being yourself is something not nearly enough people do anymore.
And I rather like you how you are, so my suggestion would be to stick to that route.
