Hello,
My name is Mary Munson, also known as Hino Tenshi. I’m actually graduating college this year, and am working on a research project on Japanese rock music in America and other countries and how the American releases of merchandise do not seem to sell well to the niche audience. If you are a fan of jrock, or Japanese music, or have knowledge of it, I would like to request you join my online focus group.
I am asking for participation in an online version of a focus group to gain some perspective on what you think the problem is and how to fix it. I need opinions from at least 12 people if that is at all possible. Thank you so much in advance for taking the time to help me out and respond to my questions.
Do you feel that the American adoption of Japanese music merchandise been low and slow in coming? Why?
Do you feel the Japanese music presence on the internet has been beneficial for the spread of the genre? Does it continue to be so?
In your opinion that is something that American companies or the American branches of Japanese companies can do to sell American releases of albums or merchandise to a western audience?
Is timeliness an issue? If it is then what can be done to make it not one?
Would extras or incentives on Western or American releases make them more of an attractive buy?
Are the concerts performed in America satisfactory? If not then is there a way to improve them?
Should they preform in more than just the American west coast or east coast? Which cities/states/countries should be added as part of a “world tour?”
Do you like that many Japanese bands use anime conventions to get exposure in America?
Is there a better way? How?
If fan clubs for bands started making official foreign branches or offered other countries memberships, would you be interested in joining?
What if the price of the membership itself was more than that of those who have Japanese addresses? Or should membership dues be the same and only the shipping be added to the price?
What kind of members exclusives should be offered to foreign members? Should it be exactly the same as what Japanese members receive?
Should artists make more appearances aside from concerts in America and other countries? Would you attend if you had to pay for it? Is there another way guarantee attendance?
Edit: I would really like to hear opinions on here to possibly facilitate discussion, but it has come to my attention that the comment sections aren't terribly long because of the limit of characters, so if would rather send it via email in one post please send it to MM1782@txstate.edu
