I'm in a bad time-crunch. The paycut goes into effect June 1-st. Landlord isn't going to lower the rent for long, if at all.. and honestly, he shouldn't since it's very undervalued as it is. He likes me as a tenant, is why. If I stay past the pay-cut, the difference is going to be coming out of my savings. I can hold out for a few months, but at the end of that, I'll be in a much worse financial position than I am now. My reserves will be exhausted, and I'll be stuck in California... and STILL have to move back east.
The other problem I face is an obsolescent skill-set. I don't learn well unless I can DO something; books are all well and good, as are classes.. but I forget rapidly unless I put it into practice. I'm a Windows NT 4.0 admin, Tug. There aren't many places that USE 4.0 anymore. And my boss is cutting costs; he's not going to pay to upgrade the servers and server OS. I'm like a mainframe programmer/operator.. there aren't too many of my kind left. When we're needed, we're needed badly. But it's only needed by a select few..
I'd certainly not mind working an entry level job again;I don't mind paying my dues. But I've got to be given the opportunity to learn and train... I don't know UNIX, Solaris, or any real variant of Linux. I can learn.. but even the entry-level jobs seem to want far more than that. I WANT to work. I WANT to learn. But I'm having a hard time even getting callbacks for interviews.. and I suspect it's because my skills are antiquated. But no.. I'd not mind another job. At all. It's FINDING that other job.. and in time... that is hard.
