Hiking

Yesterday I joined the ni-nensei from Kawanobori Jr. High for a hike in the mountains not far from the school. The morning started out rainy, so the whole trip was in question. It was decided that we would go ahead as planned and hope for the best.

I, along with four other teachers, led the kids to an area called Yahazu Dam. The kids, in groups of eight, made their way up the mountain. Along the way, the teachers had obstacles and games the kids had to conquer before moving on.

At the top of the mountain we all ate lunch and played games. It seemed like everyone was having a good time. Though the other teachers took cars along the path, I walked the 10 mile course with the kids. It was a good chance to talk to some of the kids I've never really spent time with before. As a whole, I haven't spent much time at all with the ni-nensei. Most of my free time is spent with the san-nensei (who are all away on a class trip to Kumamoto).

The hike gave me a lot of good photo opportunities. Here is a brief collection.
