A day at the museum

Jan 27, 2009 20:33

After lord know how many years, I visited Auckland Museum, largely to see the 'Sue the T.Rex' exhibition that is in town at the moment. I was impressed both with the exhibition and all of the galleries. Unlike the abomination that is Te Papa, the national museum, Auckland still retains a British/Smithsonian type feel to it rather than being pitched at 10 year olds. There was this Secrets Revealed gallery that was borderline but I think that was the nature of it. My favourites are still the waka and whare nui on the ground floor, though the Volcanos and Wild Child galleries were also pretty cool. All in all it was a nice afternoon and.the rear atrium is a good addition with a decent cafe in it.
