Tippecanoe and Tyler Too

The day before the hurricane hit Florida, a lot of the people I know in Tampa Bay came to Orlando to avoid the storm. Meanwhile, that same day, I went back home to face it head on. And while I enjoyed a hurricane free weekend in NPR, Orlando got trashed. On Sunday morning, Crissy and I left New Port Richey for St. Augustine, where we stayed overnight in the city's oldest Bed & Breakfast- the St. Francis Inn, built in 1791. Over 200 years old. Amazing.
When I came home to Orlando on Monday evening, everything was a mess. Huge trees had been completely ripped out of the ground, telephone poles were down, houses were torn apart. Just about every house on my block was damaged. Every house but mine. Somehow, it emerged from the storm unharmed, without even losing a single shingle. We were lucky.
This past week went by quickly. I've been at the shelter every day since Monday, and I'm loving it. But I won't be in again now until next friday. Since I start classes on Monday, I'm going to put the shelter on hold for the week and figure out my schedule. I'm looking forward to school though. After a few months of summer, I'm always ready to go back. I bought two of my textbooks today, for Clinical Psych and Child Psychopathology, since those are the only classes I'm guaranteed to be taking right now. You know how big of a nerd I am? I already read the first chapter of my Clinical Psych book. And I've got this new video game on my computer where I shoot Nazis, so I play that all night instead of sleeping. It's addicting, but I'm starting to get tired of it. I bought two new cds today: a compilation called the Future Soundtrack for America and the new Presidents of the United States album. Some of the songs on the PUSA album are fun, but most of them sound like they were written in 5 minutes. The compilation is good.
