Happy Birthday Thao!

I had a splendiferous weekend. Whoa, I didn’t even know that was a real word. I typed it in outlook, and no red squiggly line appeared!

Friday Julius came down from the bay. People came over and took shots of Patron, and in the middle of intense and engaging conversation with longtime friends, Julius fell asleep. Same old Jules.

Saturday, daytime was devoted to the NFL Draft. I had pretty much no reaction to our picks since I’m not on the up & up of the college game. I’m glad we picked up Craig Davis though. He had some good hits singing “Seven Days” and “Fill Me In” and wearing cool beanies like this guy pictured here:

At night we celebrated the 23rd Birthday of Thao aka Jennie. My first night at Visions, which apparently is the new Rock Bottom in terms of price, AzN AtTeNdAnCe, and overall crowdedness. I had good hearty special times with my friends, and the birthday girl got pretty intoxicated. Same old Jennie!

Sunday I got back to LA in time to watch the end of the Padres game, which turned out to be 8 extra innings. It ended in a disappointing Kouzmanoff strikeout, but my spirits were saved by a phone call from Julius. Someone flaked on him and Cat so I got to go to the Brian McKnight concert for free!

This was my 2nd time seeing The Icon. Me and Jus were 5 feet away from him at CD USA taping, but he only sang two songs, so it was my first full force B. McKnight show. I think back to the concert, and I’m still shaking my head at some of the things The Icon did with his voice. He even did a small set with his two sons, which only confirmed to me that you CAN’T really do anything you set your mind to. There are people in this world who are born to do what they do because God or Allah or Buddha or natural selection has blessed them with the genetic predisposition for it. The McKnights were born to sing, period. And sing in a way in which ladies soon thereafter cream in their panties (and some dudes too-not me of course).

BTW, Joe was the opener. He’s got enough hits to make a decent 20th century masters CD, but this brotha forgot the words to HIS OWN SONG. And not just any song, he forgot the words to “I Wanna Know”. Come on now Joe, you ain’t that high.

Many thanks (hah my supervisor says that in emails) to Jules and Cat for offering me the ticket. I hope I was a pleasant 3rd-wheel.

Bought the new Ne-Yo CD yesterday. It’s got just as many catchy ones as the last CD I think, but there’s some songs that I can’t stand listening to already, and the last CD didn’t have those. Time will tell how much this new one grows on me.

Coffee count for the day: 3. And we’re only halfway there.
