You can credit this window of opportunity for updating to a decline in workload again. The past few days my company actually had the nerve to give me work. Of course I was myspacing and movie trailer-watching and imeeming and all that jazz, but my breaks were too short to sit and write a meaningful entry.
Early last week I would’ve had time to update. But Virginia Tech happened. Virginia Tech. Two words that-before April 16-were associated with much nicer things. I had a lot I wanted to say about what happened. But work got busy, the weekend packed, and I was too lazy to seek new information on my own. And now I’m, probably like most other young Americans, sadly numb to it.
I was moved and touched and inspired last week, but honestly I’m probably just as idle and self-absorbed now as I was before the shootings. I can only hope that the tragedy has changed me enough to be a better person in the long run, even if I don’t visibly feel like it.

My weekend was stellar. Many thanks to Justin Thicke, Kuya Dre-Z, and Ate Ja-yonce for the most creative house party I’ve ever been to. Even though only a few of us tried to look like celebrities, we looked damn good doing it on that red carpet. I LOVED everything except for the fact that I drank myself to sleep halfway through the night. I’d like to thank my beautiful date for giving me a shoulder to drool on and for taking pictures of everything I missed. Katrina didn’t need to imitate any celebrities cause she’s already a star to me! (
photos from various paparazzi have been compiled on my myspace). Happy Birthday Ate Jan!
I feel like every day’s a struggle to keep up with everything I want to do, but I still don’t have much to show for it. Thus, pointless rambling. . . .
I’m not really impressed by my creative advertising class. But I still want to be a copywriter first and foremost. So it’s up to me to be doing the impressing.
My day job is a little brighter because 1. They put RockStar energy drinks in our vending machine for $1!! 2. We got a nifty NesCafe vending machine that makes decent mixed espresso drinks. No excuse for me to be tired at work now. And 3. It’s upfront season in the advertising industry, which means all the networks try to suck up to all the agencies so they buy advertising space on their shows for the next year. That means almost nothing to me except that I get to scavenge for leftovers after catered meetings at the agency with networks. Score!
Baseball is well under way, and thanks to being out of school, I can keep up with my Pads on a day-to-day basis for once. I know nothing about the MLB anymore, so I don’t know much other than that we seem to be contenders. And that’s all you can really ask for.
Speaking of contending, the Clippers aren’t. I’m not inspired to say anything insightful about the season. It was what it was.
I’m also keeping up with UCLA football daily, and I’m thinking of making it out to the spring scrimmage. Basketballwise, today Collison announced he’s staying for his junior year and I am RELIEVED. Now Kevin Love aka The Great Outlet Passer Since Bill Walton will have a wide receiver after defensive boards. I think my boy Luc Richard also confirmed he’s staying.
I’m pumped for the NFL Draft on Saturday, but I’m not sure how much of it I’ll actually see. Our GM’s initials must stand for Absolute Jenius, or, Awesome Job, with the resume he’s compiled on draft days for San Diego. Keep it up, A.J.!
The new jerseys go on sale tomorrow, which means my online order should be shipping soon. Jean Claude Van Damme I’m gonna look good in that new white LT.
And the “R” in Melissa R. stands for ROBBED.
Did a lot of shopping the past 2 weekends. If it wasn’t for my tax returns, I’d be living on Top Ramen and the previously mentioned leftovers at work for the next month.
I’m just as excited for this weekend as I was for last. Jules is coming down and Jennie’s celebrating her birthday in SD. Man I’ve got it good in the friends department.
My co-worker just gave me a link to a UK site that has hundreds of TV shows and movies online. I’d share it here but something like this seems too good to be true, and I don’t want CTU kidnapping me in the middle of the night and Doyle torturing me for piracy. The Patriot Act lets the government do anything nowadays. But anyway, my point was that it’s ironic how I’ve discovered the most fun things to do online while at “work.”
Surfing the web behind the illusion of productivity. That, my friends--and not Dusty Rhodes--is the American Dream.
