Summary: Barney and Robin are back together in 2012 but nobody believes them
and aren't happy about them being together again. What will make them see that
they aren't lying and that they really are together and happy? B/R
A/N: This is not my first fanfic but it is the first time posting in this forum. There might be some season 8 spoilers down the line but nothing that I would use that the show would use just that B/R will get back together, engaged and married that's all and i'm sure everyone should know this by now.
September 2012!
It had been a crazy couple of years and months for both Robin and Barney with them realizing that they love each other and wanting to be together but all of that didn't happened when they wanted to get back together. There has been so many opsticales in their way to their reunion some included other relationships with other people and them being scared to go there again with each other. When their first try at an relationship failed they swore that they would never go back there again. Robin even told herself that after she and Barney broke up that she would not date anyone, well that didn't work out for her the way she planned. Going through her mourning period after Barney was so tough on her emotionally she told herself she can't go back there again because getting hurt by Barney and that break up nearly killed her. She couldn't go back there again because she wouldn't be able to get over another heartbreak with Barney. Yes, she loved him then, she loved him after, she loves him now but being so messed up in her head and heart over Barney. She needed to, no she did tell herself she couldn't go back to Barney and that's why she tried to move on with Kevin. Kevin was a good guy, he loved her, took care of her and even proposed to her but something never felt quite right with him. Sleeping with Barney, that was the worst mistake of her life because again it hurt her too much to let herself go there again with him after trying desperately to get over him. That was a mistake, oh so she told herself and Barney. But, trying to move on with Kevin and with her career with Barney still on her mind. Well, that was like running into a fire without a hose. Then, when she found out Barney got engaged. That was it, she said she is going to move on with her life and let him be happy with Quinn but that didn't work out. After Barney and Quinn broke up, Robin gave him time and the space he needed to get over that heartbreak but the closeness that had always been there between them. They couldn't deny it, they tried to move on with other things but it was just something in the universe pushed them together.
Present day:
September, it's a beautiful month because it was starting to get cooler and the leafs on the trees were started to fall. Barney and Robin had just gotten back together after so many years and months of denying their feelings for each other and Lily she was a big help in that department.
"I knew you two slept together last November. How can I be so stupid? The signs were all pointing to Robin slept with Barney." Lily yelled for about two minutes before settling down again and taking a deep breath.
"Fine, we slept together are you happy now. I made a big mistake back then choosing Kevin over Barney was the worst mistake of my life but I never stopped loving him. So we are back together now and I was hoping you were going to be happy for us but I guess not." Robin was shocked by Lily's out burst, she really thought that Lily would support them after all she was the one who said that they belong together and have so much chemistry. It was shocking to hear her yelling like that after saying all those things about how her and Barney should be together and are meant for each other.
"Ecstatic" Lily said rolling her eyes not happy with what she's just heard.
"Look, Lily. I just wanted to tell you sooner about Barney and I but you were so busy with Marvin and Marshall so I decided, we decided not to tell you that were are back together." Robin said trying not to sound even more annoyed by her friends attitude.
"Also, you were the one who told me that we belong together so why are you acting like this Lil?" Robin wasn't sure about why Lily was acting this was towards her and Barney's reunion but she wasn't happy about it.
"I'm just... You and Barney always seemed like a dead end I didn't think that you would get back together. You two are completely terrible for each other and even though I said that you belong together I didn't really mean it because I never thought you would get back together. I'm sorry Robin, but I don't believe that you and Barney are together again." Robin didn't think Lily was this against her and Barney but she obviously was wrong in thinking that Lily would be happy for her and for Barney because she wants her friends to be happy.
Robin had tears in her eyes by then end of this conversation she couldn't believe Lily. She thought Lily was her friend, hers and Barney's friend how could see say these things? So, Robin stormed out of MacLaren's and called Barney.
Flashback:
September 1st 2012!
It was a really hot day, it was almost the end of summer and it was steaming hot. Everybody was either at the beach or pools for the last weekend of summer before school start up. Robin had just seen Barney that afternoon at MacLaren's looking like he was crying.
"Barney" Robin said putting her hand on Barney's shoulder. Barney turned around and wiped his eyes and face looking at Robin.
"Oh, hey Robin" Barney said giving a light smile trying to look happy to see Robin again after 3 months of seeing each other on and off.
"Hi, have you been crying?" Robin said staring down at her friend sitting there looking quite shaken by something.
"Hm, no" Barney tried to deny that he had been crying but it didn't work especially since Robin knew him all too well.
"Yes you have" Robin sat down across from Barney in their usual booth and looked at him with a sad face. "What's wrong?" She continued to asked wondering what was really going on.
"Quinn broke up with me." Barney simply said trying not to cry.
"What? Why?" Robin was shocked, she was so sure that Barney was happy with Quinn and vise versa this was shocking to hear but it did make her happy because she really didn't like Quinn. To be honest she hated that bitch.
"Okay, know that wasn't true. I broke up with her. I caught her lying and cheating." Barney was still trying not to break down again so he straightened up and continued talking to Robin.
"Oh my god, that... Never mind." Robin rolled her eyes in discussed, she knew Quinn was a bitch the moment she met her. "I am so sorry Barney." Robin said sincerely putting a consoling hand on Barney's hand that was resting on the table.
"I can't believe her, she had been lying to me all this time just to rob me everything I have. She stole a lot of money and even my apartment." Barney didn't realize how Quinn mislead him all these months saying that she loves him and even said yes to his proposal.
"What? She took your apartment?" Robin was getting more and more annoyed with this conversation she wanted to rip Quinn's head off for hurting Barney this way it was an awful down right disgusted thing to do to an already vulnerable man.
"Yeah, today I checked my bank account and it was down to just $100 and then I checked to see who/why the money was gone and the bank told me that a blonde women came in and asked to see my account status she told them that she was my wife and that she needed this money in a hurry. So, they believed her and gave her my account information. When I asked them who took the money they told me Quinn, so I went home to see why she stole all my money. The key, I put the key I have always had in the door but the door wouldn't open so I knocked on the door because I heard people in there. Quinn was there redecorating my apartment, not in the horrible pink but in a red and black colors. I asked her what the hell she was up to and she told me that she was only using me for my money, my apartment and a good lay. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing how could someone do that to someone who she supposedly loved?"
"I am" Robin didn't say anything after that because Barney began crying again so she comforted him that night until...
Later that night Robin let Barney stay at her place and in the morning they tried looking for a new apartment for him. This was the first day that Barney and Robin saw each other after a good 3 weeks trying to keep her distance from him. But, after this day Robin's feelings for Barney came back again and after a good 2 weeks of hanging out and making him feel better Robin told him that she still loves him and will always be there for him. They were back together after that last week and dated the rest of the month without telling anybody. They were happier than ever.
End of flashback!
"Barney, I just told Lily about us and she literally freaked out." Robin told Barney this right as he picked up his phone.
"What do you mean freaked out?" Barney was confused, he thought that Lily would be happy for them because after all she was the one who thought they were perfect for each other.
"Freaked out, she told me that we shouldn't be together because we make each other miserable and she yelled at me that I was making a big mistake. I told her that I love you and you love me but that didn't help. Barney, she doesn't believe that we're together again." Robin was almost in tears as she said that last part. She really couldn't believe Lily.
"I am shocked, of all people to say that about us I never thought it would be Lily." Barney was saddened by this sudden declaration by Lily that he didn't know what else to say. Only!
"I know, when are you free I want to see you. I miss you." Robin told Barney and he told her that he would be at work for the next hour so they met up for dinner that night. It was the first time they saw each other all day.
