Last Thursday, Kathryn (media_klepto ) and I went out for a walk at around 7pm.  We got down about three, four blocks away when her mother, who lives with us, called.  She sounded upset, and asked if we would turn around and come home.  When I asked why, she said she couldn't tell us, because I'd probably freak out, and Kat would freak out.

We got home a few minutes later, and her mother was at the door, in tears.  I had just gotten in the door behind Kat and closed it so none of the cats escaped, and her mother tells us that Morpheus (Momo or just Mo for short), one of our cats, and probably the closest to Kathryn out of the bunch, was dead.

It was a fast, painless death.  He jumped up on her mother's lap, and put his front paws up on her shoulder, "hugging" as he was famous for doing; got down from her shoulder, tensed up, meowed once, and...just died.

He was, as far as we can tell from what information we have that didn't get thrown out before we moved up from Florida, about 8 years old.  In his 40's in cat years.  Not an OLD cat, in fact, we have three older than him.  He wasn't really sick, he ate, he drank, he played with the other cats...but he did have some manner of breathing problem, where unless he was having a good day, he wheezed.  Not severe, but like when a kid has a cold, and you can hear every time they breathe in or out.  Occasionally, he would get into a massive sneezing fit; but we attributed that more to low-quality cat litter.  When we bought less dusty litter, he didn't have the fits nearly as much.

The point of this is, since most of the people who read my journal have probably already read Kat's, is that it made me realize something that always floats around in the back of everyone' heads - one day, someone you know and love could just be poof, gone.

Like all of you who read this journal.  Or all the friends I talk via instant messaging.  I sit here and say "meh, I'm too lazy to get on the computer right now."  Well, the people I talk to on this computer are just about the only friends I've got.  Am I too lazy for them?  For you?

No.  Not anymore.

All I ask in return, is that you try not to drop dead when I go out for a walk, mmkay?  =S

friends, momo, morpheus, mo, life
