Postage costs have become so fearfully dear.  I was almost obliged to pay an alarming sum to post a large package to Spain; it would have been far more expensive than the cost of the contents itself.  Thankfully, I was saved the extortion by the expedient thinking of the kind people at the post office (I think they were horrified too), who solved the problem thus:

One side of the package was folded in (avoiding the contents) and stapled in place, thereby reducing its length by about 10cm or so, and consequently reducing the postage cost by half.  Can you imagine?  I'm only thankful I hadn't decided upon a box after all as I had originally planned.

Are you not excessively diverted?  I reappear after another considerable silence to talk of post-office trips and ill-mannered coughers...

humour, silly, miscellany
