'Re: Informal talk
I came across your delightful site via SAA Illustration Hub. I would like to contact Niroot Puttapipat, with the offer of an informal talk about historical costume and background research processes at UWIC university in Cardiff. The illustration students there are undergraduates. They would very much like Niroot's work and be excited to learn about any experiences and learning curves involved in working as an illustrator. It would also be interesting to look at historical research as a necessity for the illustrator.
Please pass my details and compliments on to Niroot.'
I think I will do it. I've given a talk (or rather, a series of two: one in the morning and one in the afternoon) to Illustration undergraduates at Middlesex University before at the invitation of my friend and former tutor. I also gave a small series of workshops for fourteen-year-olds at Waldegrave School for Girls in Richmond; my friend Hannah teaches there and likewise asked me. I survived! But after all, those who did attend the workshops actually cared to, and the school was very different from the one I went to. In both cases, it took a deal of courage on my part to decide in the first instance. Speaking in front of people has never been my strength. But both turned out to be agreeable experiences. I still feel daunted by this, but perhaps a little less terrified. It won't be until October or November, so there will be time to prepare.
- The Folio Society are planning to sell prints from their website of illustrations from their books, as a result of a new 'Art on Demand' scheme in which they're taking part. Artists keep 20% of the profits, if we accept this as part of future Folio Society contracts (we do not have to). It is also not exclusive and we can still sell prints and originals elsewhere if we wish.
- Somebody a while ago expressed a wish via Sotheran's, who then contacted my agent, that they would like to purchase all of my original illustrations for the Rubáiyát. I am still unsure even now about selling originals and asked if we might find out more from this prospective purchaser, and whether they might agree to the sale of some, but not all. We still haven't heard back.
