... Is darting into the Grenville shop at the British Museum ten minutes before it closes, and securing a late Christmas gift for my sister and some Italian-made leather-bound journals for myself.

What beautiful books, especially the Pompeian one! Mme Malkhos wold never let me buy anything like that, unless, oddly enough, we were on vacation, she she would let me spend money like water.

Its because of her Scott's frugality, which I can hardly question since it has gotten us where we are.

If you do change your mind, the offer remains. It is not so terribly generous, really. The books are on sale at half price. They may well disappear before too long. :D

These are not usually there either; I think it is a seasonal thing. But I think you could find similarly attractive notebooks in bookshops and good stationers, perhaps? I forget the name of the company who makes them (not Moleskine, but similar in size), in paperbound hardbacks with designs like old manuscripts and such.

Thankfully I've received a few amazing journals as gifts from friends...not the least of which is medievalmuse up there in the comments :D
