Edited, 28th February, 2009: Better scans in place, plus scans of the title page and endpapers have been added.

I've been a little excited about posting my illustrations from Andrew Lang's The Red Fairy Book, published by The Folio Society this year.

The Red Fairy Book is a collection of fairy tales which Lang collected and which formed part of his ( Read more... )

All truly wonderful!

I absolutely loved The Twelve Dancing Princesses when I was little.

I have a book here somewhere that features the story of Baba Yaga. One story in the book rally scared me as a child, maybe it was that one I can't recall.

Hare! So very beautiful but then you know my love of hares!

You know, I saw the picture with the queen upon the mule before and I sat debating whether it was a mule, but didn't like to ask in case I offended! I was looking back and forth between the mule and the horses and saying to Andy, "It MUST be a mule as he draws horses so very well. It is a mule isn't it? I daren't ask in case I offend. No, it MUST be a mule! Look! Donkey ears!" I love mules by the way!

I adore your wild boar! Actually I love wild boars, boar piglets are so adorable!

Both the hen and that adorable mouse are wonderful! And what a dapper little fox! And the canary! Such a sweet expression! And you know I love your dragons!

Aww, thank you very, very much, Melanie!

I wonder if it was Vasilissa the Fair which you read? That has another famous appearance of Baba Yaga, her hut on hen's legs also has a starring role in it!

I'd hoped you'd like the one with the hare!

Hehe! I can't remember whether I mentioned when I first posted (the photograph of the proof) of the queen on her mule that it was indeed a mule! But you know you must never be afraid of offending me (you, offend me? Were such a thing possible!)! Please ask away about anything.

Thank you again so much!

I shall attempt to check this one .. now, I just found the book which has just three stories, The Ghost Catcher, Baba Yaga and The Goblin and The Tailor but I can't recall which scared me as a little girl, though they were all quite creepy. I think it was the last by looking at the illustrations.

I shall definitely ask in future :)

I followed this link from your entry in Storybook Land LJ community. I hope you don't mind my watching your journal? You illustrative style is so reminiscent of the styles of drawings I loved so much as a child and still love today, even though I love the illustrations in a much more technically minded sense than as a kid :)

Keep up this absolutely gorgeous work!

Thank you so much!

I don't mind at all - though do please be warned that I can be very despondent indeed! I try to post artwork instead and say less!

Oh, how strange! It was a few days ago - I bought two more copies myself to give to friends. Perhaps they're re-stocking?

And thank you again!

You probably don't need me anymore to tell you how much I love your art, but everything you make just makes me so happy. The girl on the ox, the princess and the hog - everything you make is so elegant and pretty.

Ps. I hope you're feeling better than you used to, because I think in all honesty you deserve every single nice comment about your art.

Thank you so much, Fifa. Those are such very kind words. Your comments, as well as your journal entries, are always looked forward to. Everything you have to say means a great deal to me.

I'm sorry if I seemed even more noticealy despondent than usual of late (I'm wary of being irritating to my LJ friends because of it though, so I try to say as little as possible). People have been extremely kind about these illustrations on storybookland and told_tales, and I'm truly very touched.

Hnnooohhh I don't know what to say. You're much too kind to me.

You're not despondent - rather flooded with well-earned compliments, and if you ask me, it's about time. :)

*Blushes*

I'm afraid I am very unhappy - though if it doesn't appear so, then I'm glad I've succesfully avoided boring everyone with it!
