Lily didn’t swear often - when you work with children, you learn to watch your mouth.
However, when you drop a very large and very heavy globe on your foot, there really is only one word you can use.
Her kindergarteners stared at her, more shocked by Lily’s outburst than the actual word. And why should they be shocked by it? They didn’t know what it meant.
“Miss Aldrin, what does that mean?”
“It’s a bad word that’s only grown-ups can use,” she replied. “Don’t ever say it.”
For the next three weeks, Lily had to deal with angry phone calls.
