Lily’s big mouth around the holidays, Robin thought, exasperated. Lily just had to go spill the beans to Ted about Robin’s present being an iPod. Robin loved Lily, but she sometimes wished Lily would act her age.
Robin saw through Ted’s present face as he unwrapped the red iPod Nano. She couldn’t help but bite back a twinge of sadness. “Hope you like what’s in it Ted!” she said, hurrying away to refill her eggnog.
The iPod had been unpacked and charged, and all his favourite songs were already loaded into it.
Ted sighed guiltily, wishing Robin liked kids more.

New Year’s Eve, 2009
They’d planned to drop by a party, but just ended up celebrating at the apartment instead. Lily and Marshall had fallen asleep on the couch by 11:30. Barney and Robin were pretty drunk - when they started to sing along to November Rain on the stereo, Ted headed to the roof to catch the fireworks.
There was a girl from Brooklyn who’d just moved into the building. Ted found her alone on the roof, humming along to the drunken voices that floated up from the apartment below as she poured kahlua into her bottle of root beer.
