RE: J2: One of the dogs has a health scare (but turns out to be all right). Jared worries, Jensen coepicallytiredSeptember 12 2009, 19:14:43 UTC
I actually originally had this plotted for my Thick Socks Verse but I hadn't gotten around to writing it yet. So hey, now was a good time. Hope you like it.
Jensen comes home to find Jared sitting on the floor, Harley lying across his legs. It looks like Jared's been crying recently. Jensen crouches down.
“Hey, hey, what’s up?”
“I’m such an idiot, such a fucking idiot.”
“Jare, what happened?”
“My mom sent me a double batch of fudge brownies, and two dozen chocolate chocolate chip cookies.”
“That was… nice of her?”
“I didn’t know, I put the package on the hall table, I wanted to take a shower. By the time I got downstairs… all of it Jen, he ate all of it.”
“Did you call the vet? You want me to drive?”
“She says it shouldn’t really affect him. It’s not enough chocolate to hurt a guy his size but it could have been anything, I could have… and it could be enough and…”
Jared was getting worked up again. Jensen sat down next to him, petting Harley’s head. “He’s a tough guy, he’ll be fine.”
Sadie barked and Harley turned his head, wagged his tail and rolled off of Jared's legs to go play.
“See, he’s not even feeling bad.”
“But he could have. I mean…”
“Yeah, I know, we’ll keep an eye on him. Cook up some hamburger and rice, the chicken soup for dogs, right?”
Jared smiled. “Yeah, I’m sorry, I just…”
“Hey, don’t apologize for loving your dogs.”
“I do you know.”
Jensen nodded. They spent the night watching movies, the dogs at their feet, Jared obsessively checking Harley for any signs of distress. Eventually he was having trouble keeping his eyes open.
“C’mon Jare, bed.”
“Yeah, okay, can…”
“Yeah. They can sleep upstairs tonight. We’ll take them on set tomorrow, okay?”
“Okay.”
So they set up the dog beds in the bedroom for the night and fell asleep. An hour later Jensen woke up to find Jared asleep on the floor, his arm over Harley’s chest, Sadie at his feet.
Jensen sighed, and brought Jared a pillow. “You’re sleeping on the floor tonight?”
Jared nodded. Jensen pulled the blanket off the bed and grabbed his own pillow and curled up behind Jared, covering them all with the duvet. “Sleep Jare, I’ll keep an eye on him.”

And the pack slept.
