I've been anticipating this weekend for a long time. Not only was it the weekend to come and do trax for my new CD project (By His Grace on the Morningstar Label with Eddie Crook), but also a weekend for Kelly and I to get away...just the 2 of us, and enjoy some alone time.
We started off this morning with breakfast here at the Holiday Inn Express...then met Mr. Eddie Crook for a short trip to the studio (see www.rodburtonmusic.com for details and pictures). I've spent the last several weeks going through songs to find just the right ones...and today they came to life the way that I hear them. The musicians were incredible, the facilities first rate...and the experience indescribable. I had certain ideas for intros and outros...but the end result was more than I ever dreamed. I'd like to say that I know which song is my favorite...but every one I listen to sticks out in my mind. I'm really anxious to get back to Nashville and get the vocals done...so we can get the project complete. Thanks especially to Mr. Eddie Crook (the king!) and to an amazing engineer in Adrian Payne. All these guys just blew me away...and were incredibly helpful.
Tonight Kelly and I went to the Grand Old Opry and had a great time. So much history...so much presence. I've decided that I intend to sing there...I have to, all there is to it. We saw some classic Opry members in Little Jimmy Dickens and Porter Wagoner, but also go to enjoy Joe Diffie, Lorrie Morgan (incredible) and The Charlie Daniels Band! I've seen them before...but it's really something different at the Opry...there's just something about that stage. It was a great night, and overall a fantastic day.
But the best part has been spending time with my bride. We frankly haven't been able to spend a lot of time together lately. Activities with the kids...the baby, work....music, you name it...we've been doing it. In all the rush...we haven't taken much time just to be. We've always been able to just know what and how the other is thinking..and that's been a little rusty lately. The greatest thing about being married to your best friend is that you get to share everything...but even with your best friend you have to take time and make sure you're doing that. This weekend...even with leaving Miranda for the first time, has given us a chance to reconnect.
So tomorrow we go home...back to the kids...and back to the hectic schedule. But it's great to know that we'll be back at the grind together...climbing all the mountains...blah, blah, blah. And I can't wait.... :-)
