An 8th grade girl came into the counseling office crying her eyes out. So after talking to her a little, we read and discussed a colorful children's book together that made her smile and stop crying. Then we talked about the both beautiful and lonely experiences of being a sensitive person, Edgar Allen Poe, self-awareness, and why books, poetry, and photography inspire her. She left with a beaming grin, told me how I made her feel so much better, and that she was so excited to talk with me again every week.
I haven't felt this deeply happy in a very long time.
Kids make my soul shine more than anything else in the world.
