Ladies and gentlemen, Excalibur: The Mighty Copper Chariot is up for sale.
My grandparents bought that car when it was brand new back in 1987. They always had those lovely pine air fresheners in it and those beaded seat covers. They gave my mom the car in 1998,who gave it to me, right before I turned 16. It only had 90,000 miles on it when I started to learn to drive. I was the coolest kid in my neck of the woods because I had a driver's license and a hot copper car with matching copper interior. I drove my friends around for a long time!!! It was all cool though. With that car I could be cool and drive to school and not take that silly bus, except when it snowed. I could pick up the donuts that NHS sold in the morning. My brother first called the car Excalibur during one of his silly song singing moments. Emily and I could go to Borders and the mall or wherever the basket of fun that sat in the backseat told us to go. I could take my brother wherever my mom made me take him. I could do 180's on the back roads in the snow and provide opportunities for out of school suspension. That car hauled the little dog around (there is still lots of dog hair in it). I felt complete in that car. One of my favorite thoughts is me in my favorite green shirt and also wearing my little black leather jacket and black man stomping shoes while driving the car. I felt as if all I needed to be independent was that car. Several trips to Indiana and back were taken in that car. I learned how to drive better in the snow with that car out in Indiana. I blame the Indiana weather for the car's exterior state right now :P I love that car even though people call it a 'piece of shit'. I absolutely love how well it still accelerates. All of it's flaws amuse me, the broken seat, broken radio that is permanently on, broken air conditioning, and the day that the rear view mirror fell off still makes me laugh (however that is glued back in place). The brakes aren't too hot, but hey, everyone needs new ones once in awhile. It now has 162,000 miles on it and I am asking for $300 or best offer. However there is no price on the memories I have that are associated with that car.
