sleeper6 Chapter 17
When they all arrived at the airport, Luke and Reid said their goodbyes to Katie and Will. Luke enveloped Will in a big bear hug. He knew his friend would be back in Carbondale by the time he and Reid returned to Oakdale.
“I’m going to miss you so much. I liked having you around,” Luke said. He had seen his friends a lot in the last week. Will had come by the house several times, and he and Luke had gone to Yo’s one time recently to shoot some pool. Luke would really miss his friend.
“Yeah, me too,” Will said. “We need to schedule something when you and Reid come back from your holiday. Gwen and Hallie would love to see the two of you.”
“Yes, it would be great to see them too again. I’ll call you when we come back so we can set something up.”
Reid and Katie stood aside while the two friends said their goodbyes. “Did you get it?” Reid whispered.
“Yes, it’s in your suitcase,” Katie whispered back. “It’s beautiful, Reid.”
“Thanks for helping me with this, Katie.”
“You’re welcome. I wish I could see Luke’s face when you give it to him and tell him what the empty pages are for. When you come back, I expect a minute-by-minute recap about how it went.”
Reid groaned. “Well, if everything goes as I hope it will, Luke will spill everything before you have to ask.”
“Of course it will go as you hope. You know Luke; he’s a sucker for this kind of thing.”
“Are you ready?” Luke asked, thus ending the conversation between them.
“Let’s go.”
Luke and Reid both hugged their friends one last time before they climbed the stairs and entered the plane.
Once they were seated, they got drinks and sandwiches. Luke grabbed Reid’s hand, rubbing soothing circles with his thumb. “You okay?” he asked, knowing how much Reid hated to fly.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I took a Xanax a little while ago so I feel pretty relaxed.”
“Good.” Luke smiled. “So what were you and Katie whispering about?”
“Oh, you know Katie and her constant need to blab about that little germ breeder and the idiot that is her husband,” Reid quickly lied.
Luke didn’t believe him for one second but decided to let it slide for now. “Reid!” Luke said instead, slapping Reid on his chest and not being able to suppress the laugh that escaped his throat.
“Ow! What was that for?” Reid rubbed his abused chest.
“You love Jacob, and you and Chris . . . yeah, okay, he’s an idiot-can’t argue with that. Ow! Why did you do that?” Luke asked as he rubbed the back of his head where Reid had just slapped him.
“Well, you hit me when I called Chris an idiot, so it’s only fair that you get the same treatment for calling him an idiot. And now shush and let me enjoy my sandwich.”
Luke rolled his eyes and picked up his own sandwich. They ate in silence. After they both finished, Reid put his arm around Luke, and Luke laid his head on Reid’s shoulder. They fell asleep within a few minutes.
They were both startled awake when the pilot announced that they were going to land in a few minutes. They rubbed their eyes and buckled up for the landing.
They exited the plane and walked out of the airport where two men and two cars waited for them. After Luke introduced himself, one of the men handed Luke the keys to a car.
“There are instructions on how to get to the villa inside the car. The keys for the gate and the villa are in the same envelope,” the man said. “Rosa, the housekeeper, will be there to show you around the house when you arrive.”
“Thank you so much,” Luke said and shook the hands of both of the men. Reid simply nodded his head, and then he and Luke walked to the car that would be theirs for their stay at the island.
After bickering for a while about who would be the one to drive, Reid sat behind the wheel while Luke ended up in the passenger seat with the directions on his lap. The ride to the house was enjoyable. They came across some of the most beautiful views of the sea that they had ever seen. Luke was practically bouncing in his seat, pointing out some spots to Reid. Reid said nothing but drove with a content smile on his face. He had to admit the island so far was impressive so far.
“It should be here somewhere,” Luke said after a while. “Yes, there it is.” He pointed to a massive gate.
“Damn, Luke, you really went all out on this one, didn’t you?” Reid was eyeing the massive gate with the surveillance cameras stationed all around. He couldn’t see the house from the road yet, but he already knew it would be amazing.
Luke shrugged. “I just wanted some alone time with my crazy-sexy husband, and I thought a big, secluded villa on an almost deserted part of the island would do the trick.”
Reid chuckled. “You know, there are cheaper ways to have some alone time with your husband, don’t you?”
“Pssh, what is the fun of being Richie Rich when I can’t spoil myself and my husband from time to time?” Luke said as he pressed the button on the controller to open the gate.
Reid let out a whistle when they finally saw the house. It was huge and surrounded by giant palm trees.
They exited the car and before they reached the door, it swung open, revealing a petite, older woman, here hear in a black noodle in her neck and a warm, inviting smile on here face. She reminded them both of Grandma Emma.
“You’re Doctor and Mister Oliver?” she asked.
“Yes, we are,” Luke said.
They shook hands and followed her into the house. Once inside, they were even more impressed. The interior was modern, and the huge kitchen, living and dining areas were in one very large open space. Rosa showed them how to use the kitchen appliances, demonstrating that the press of a single button would pull down privacy screens for all the windows. She then showed them the first floor before taking them around to each of the five bedrooms, all equipped with their own bathrooms. Reid and Luke chose the largest bedroom that had more open space.
“Well, if you need anything, my number is on a paper on the kitchen counter. I’ll be here once every three days to clean, and my husband will be here too to clean the pool,” Rosa said once they were downstairs again. She picked up her purse. “Does one of you have a question for me?”
“No, thank you very much, Rosa.”
“Good. Well, I’ll leave you alone then,” she said with a knowing smile. She had noticed as they toured the house that they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. “Oh, and I didn’t show you the terrace, but it’s through one of those big doors. I’ve also stocked the cooler with drinks and some snacks.”
As if on cue Reid’s stomach growled, and Luke and Rosa started to laugh.
After some more thank yous from the guys, Rosa left. Reid and Luke walked onto the terrace. It was stunning. Even Reid was flabbergasted by the view they had from there. There was a wide, expansive pool that looked out over the beach and the bluest sea they had ever seen.
Reid walked up behind Luke and circled his arms around his waist, hooking his chin on Luke’s shoulder. “I think we’re going to have a really good time here,” he murmured against Luke’s ear.
Luke turned his head toward Reid, a big smile gracing his face. “Yeah, I think we will,” he said before he pressed a soft kiss on Reid’s lips.
“I love you, Reid.”
“I love you too, Luke.”
