what would you do?

You know the game "telephone" where you start a story and by the time it gets to the last person it is all distorted?  Well what if it started as an e-mail "forward to 10 friends or something bad will happen to you or your school" - then girls at a slumber party "trick" the weegie (sp) board - we all know they're fake - into spelling out your school and the date 2/8?

I have a freshman - who shares a date with the worst tragedy - 9/11
and A sophomore who used to be so scared from watching news, but the last 4 or 5 yrs has done great.

Well they are scared to death.  I called police and school officials and such - it's a "hoax" they are calling it.  My babies (they'll always be) are scared to death - they don't want to go to school.  I certainly don't want to always give in but what if it were to be true and some idiotic loner kid or too much medicine lost it??? then what.  I think when there are instances on tv they are blown way too far out of proportion - and as they are young adults, my kids see this on the news.  They see the "weird" kids walking around - the "know it all kids" - the "jokster" kids - the "bragging" kids - so many to see and how do you trust them all.

I know what I'm going to do but not sure it's the right decision, it's late any suggestions?
