We had a wonderful evening on the 24th. My mom and stepdad (J) are still here - they came down to help me out while I'm recovering from having my left knee replaced. J did a marvelous job putting down laminate floor in my dining room (the girls and I did the living room last Jan and the kitchen in Nov) and finishing the trim around the edges, including the stairs. The whole main floor of the house is now done in laminate - no more smelly carpet! He's headed back to NH and Maine tomorrow, but Mom's going to stay a couple more weeks so that we can actually do some stuff together now that I'm more mobile, like play with her fancy new sewing machine and go to the Inspiring Impressionism exhibit at the High. I'll go back to work part time next week, but we'll still have some time to play.
Xmas eve was marvelous. Mom fixed an awesome dinner of beef tenderloin roast and roast veggies. I purposely didn't take any of my narcotic pain meds so that I could have some wine. D's current boyfriend was here - I actually kinda like him, which is saying a lot considering the boyfriends she's had in the last 18 months or so. C was with us as well - she's mostly moved out to live with some friends at this point (more on that in another post...)
We then opened gifts. I got a rug for the entryway and another for in front of the sink in the kitchen, a wonderful purple blouse, and odds and ends of several small things that were pretty cool. I think the girls were pleased with their presents - I didn't have money for much, but Mom also got them several things. I think the best present she gave was to C - she's paying to have C's miniature dachshund, Molly, spayed.
Food was great, conversation was great, everyone had a wonderful time. It was one of the best Xmas holidays I've had in years.
