The weekend had been perfect. As much as Hilary loved New Year's in her hometown of New York City, this had been a welcome change from the constant rushing of the city. The Malibu Stark home is quiet and peaceful and one of her favorite activities had been listening to the sound of the ocean as she went to sleep at night.
Then something happens and their entire world starts to spin off its axis. The magazine is in her hands and she can't believe what she was seeing. Words and pictures and facts that were never meant to be publicly known. She looked away from the print on the page and over to Dylan who had sunk to the floor. A flash of light caught her by surprise and she looks up to see a camera by the window. A flash of red passes in front of her eyes, but this time it's not a camera. It's her own anger beginning to fuel. How dare they do this.
Happy leaves the room to take care of those that dared to come close to the house. Natalie is trying to tell them that they need to get to the airport to head back to New York. Everything is running together like wildfire and all Hilary can think about is how Dylan is going to cope with this. It's all too soon.
What happened? How had this Christine gotten all of the information on Dylan and Tony? How had she dared to reveal the story when she had to know this involved not only the one and only Tony Stark, but it involved a boy she knew nothing about but pretended that she did.
"It's going to be okay," she whispers to Dylan as Natalie and Happy usher them out the door to the car. Cameras flash all around them and she stays close to Dylan for several reasons. To keep him here with her rather than losing it like she's worried that he might. To keep herself from rushing as the press and making a scene that out-do any other celebrity that's dared to attack someone following them with a camera. She exchanges a look with Stephen and Chris, one of many from the time they get into the car until the moment they land in New York.
The airport is a mob of people and cameras and questions. Happy escorts them to the strip and Natalie does what she can to hold off the press. People are everywhere and she hears Dylan's name being asked questions over and over and Hilary wants to scream. When they board the plane, there's a man standing just inside.
"Hello, I'm Agent Phil Coulson. I am an agent with SHIELD and will be helping to escort you back to New York."
Hilary nods to him and takes a seat next to Dylan on the plane. It's minutes before they're in the air and the flight is made mostly in silence. Coulson, Happy, and Natalie sit in the front of the plane discussing plans once they arrive. She knows that there will be a mob once they've arrived back home and she can only imagine what's been going on not only in Dylan's head but in Tony and Cecilia's. She's not sure if she wants to know.
She looks down at her phone and sees countless texts and voicemails left. She needs to contact her parents and she sends a quick text to her mother saying she'll call once they land. For now, she'll sit and try to do or say anything that might help keep Dylan calm. She knows there's not much that can help, but she holds his hand on the plane and she holds his hand when they exit and the flashes start all over again. They're yelling at all of them for a statement from the new Stark heir. She holds his hand and squeezes it gently to let him know she's still there.
